Yes, I actually agree with this personally - I favoured Wlad above Bradley when this came up. But, majority rules. Bradley has beaten Marquez though, so I think it's reasonable given JMM's own spot on the p4p list when Bradley beat him.
Yeah, like I said, I'm generally on board with the TBRB's ranings. I don't necessarily agree with every single placement, but I like the methodology and the broad range of boxing opinion utilized in arriving at the rankings.
Wlad @ #5 for having done *nothing* and having beaten *nobody* is beyond ridiculous. Stop smoking the Crack...
When's Ward being stripped for inactivity. And when he does, if Froch wanted to become champion does he have to rematch Abraham again being he's number 2, or can he fight number 3 (Dirrell at the minute).
We'll see, but no time soon. The only way to crown a champ is for the #1 and #2 of a given division to meet.
I predict Ward won't fight again, Froch will retire after his fight next year, Dirrell will move up and Abraham and Stielglitz will rematch to be the rightful Super Middleweight Champion :yep In all honesty though, extreme situations like that occur is why I think The Ring's (old) policy of having 1 v 3 being a championship fight isn't always a bad idea, and would probably make top guys be more interested in winning it. Mayweather and Marquez was number 1 and 2 at Welter at one point despite the fact Mayweather had already shut him out, he would've have to beat him again to become champ, and if Ward doesn't fight again, a rematch with Froch and Abraham is a tough sell being the first one was so one sided.
Someone recently asked that question at TBRB.org. Here's the answer, cut and pasted: "[Ward's one year inactivity] has indeed cost him his spot on the P4P List. It has not, however, cost him his super middleweight throne. We believe that there are good and historically-sound reasons for that. The problem you allude to has been an unfortunate part of boxing for well over a century -champions aiming low to hold on to their crown and frustrating the fans. We, like you, expect true champions to fight the most formidable challengers available and hope that their reputation and ultimately, their legacy, matters to them as much as their purse. That being said, there isnt much the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board can do at this point in a meaningful way. We shy away from stripping a division king because that practice has a long and ignoble history. It also makes successions unclear and debatable. You may argue that disciplining a champion for failing to defend a crown or failing to fight worthy opponents can still be justifiable, and wed agree, but the time for that is not now -we would need the boxing world to accept such a move as authoritative; and given the pick-and-choose-your-champion currently in vogue, our stripping champions would only add to the confusion..."
But would he be if he took part in drug testing. Froch is licensed BBBoC forces fighters to take part in year round random drug testing- even between fights. Ward's unwillingness to fight anywhere except certain athletic commission such as the ****py CSAC and his relutance to take the test against Rodriguez raises big red flags and I believe the Transnational Boxing Ratings Panel need to correctly recognise that result as an NC.:deal
Ward also delayed the fight 2 weeks before it was due to start because he misjudged his PED cycle.:-( Calzaghe is Ward's dad.:nod Shot Calzaghe schooled Bika. Ward could only manage a draw in his hometown (officially a win, but corrupt ref and judges). :-(
