Yes, and mysteriously had Paquiao @ #1 for having done NOTHING @ 147 other than beat up on Antonio Margarito leftovers. The Ring Magazine isn't to be take seriously..
Well I wouldn't be too confident that some others such as Fightnews, Boxing News, Boxing Monthly, ESPN didn't also agree with The Ring. I just feel it was certainly arguable but hardly absurd and hardly clear cut. Nearly 90% on this poll on the forum had either Mosley or Pacquiao as #1 at the time. http://www.boxingforum24.com/showthread.php?t=184556
If Fightnews, Boxing News, Boxing Montly, etc all walked off the side of a cliff, would you follow them? Ok, so lets try using some LOGIC here. At the time of the Mayweather Mosley fight, Pacquiao only had two fights @ 147, wins over Oscar and Cotto. Oscar was unraked at the weight and hadn't fought there in 7 years. Cotto was coming off the KO loss to Margarito. So, based on Pacquiao's accomplishments, why in the hell would any SANE person rank him #1 @ 147?
Your logic rests on incomplete facts. At the time of the May-Mosley fight, Pacquiao had three -not two- fights @ 147. Oscar, Cotto, and Clottey. Cotto was coming off the KO loss to Margarito? That's a deceptive way to put it. The fact is he fought Pac almost a year and a half after that loss and had beaten Michael Jennings and Clottey before meeting Pac. Pacquiao at #1 looks pretty sane now, doesn't it?
Neither Jennings nor Clottey were ranked #1 at the time Cotto fought them. No. First, Clottey was coming off of a LOSS to Cotto. Cotto had been KO'ed by Margarito and that loss wasn't avenged - so exactly how in the hell does Pacquiao get to be the #1 welter in the world by beating a coming off of a KO loss Cotto and coming off of a loss Clottey? That **** doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Margarito was generally recognized as the #1 welter in the world after he beat Cotto - and he subsequently lost to Shane Mosley. That makes Shane #1 at welter. Meanwhile, Pacquiao is beating up on guys who were coming off of LOSSES. So, again I ask, based on Pacquiao's accomplishments, why in the hell would any SANE person rank him #1 @ 147?
Mosley was beat by Cotto who was beat by Magarito with knuckle duster who was beat by Mosley on PEDs. Cotto was clearly the man to beat to claim number 1 and Pacquiao did that, along with beating De La Hoya and Clottey for good measure. But here is some more food for thought. Mosley fought Margarito on the 24th of Jan 2009 Mosley never signed to fight Mayweather until the 30th of Jan 2010. I believe the rules state if a fighter is inactive for more than a year and doesn't have a fight scheduled (his fight with Berto was called off on the 18th of Jan) he is removed. If you wanted to harshly force the rules then Mosley shouldn't even had been in the top 10. :yikes
That's true - but a fight being "in the air" is reason enough to postpone a fighter being stripped. It doesn't have to be on Boxrec or anything as dramatic as that. Not that those were "our" rules, but just for the record.
Have you been smoking Crack? How in the hell is Cotto the "man to beat" when he had already been KO'ed by Margarito? Only on planet PacIdiot...
Because they're was suddenly a huge Astrix next to that victory after the hand wrap scandal. If I remember rightfully, because of Magarito ban he was immediately dropped from the ratings. So you had Cotto & Mosley left near the top...and who won in a fight between them two? Add in the fact that Luis Collozo was Mosley only other win at welterweight since 2001, whereas Cotto had Quintana, Urkal, Judah, Gomez, Jennings, and Mosley himself in that time I think it's fair that a guy who beats Cotto (who lets not forget had beaten Mosley) and adds De La Hoya and Clottey for good measure is number 1....then only on planet FloydIdiot can that not be seen as reasonable. :hi:
Haha what a moron. I'm not even a Pacquiao fan, I hate both him and Mayweather. There is only one true welterweight champ and that is The Special One. :deal I see you had no reasonable debate because Mosley had wins over Margcheato and Collozo at Welterweight since 2001 and had been inactive over a year, and it's completely unreasonable to suggest that a guy who had wins over De La Hoya, Clottey and a guy who beat Mosley not long before in Cotto should be ahead of him. Stick a fork in this ham n egger and send him back to Mayweather island. He's done. :hi:
