This is it exactly. Cotto is the lineal champion. Golovkin is the best middle in the world. There is no contradiction here unless people feel it necessary to make it one.
There's no difficulty understanding the concept of lineal championship. Obviously I'm saying and have said for over a year that such a thing shouldn't be valued when there's no divisional qualifications to compete for it, or requirements to defend it. The failure of a rankings experiment of mine indeed helped me understand this. Anyway, I'll stop by to say hi in a year or so, though I may not be able to resist joining in the lols of Cotto critics sooner.
People who are criticising Cotto are not criticising TBRB, even if they think they are. TBRB is identifying lineal champions and ranking the fighters in the division. The value of this is in the eye of the beholder; if someone isn't interested in lineal they won't be interested. Regardless of your failure, lots of people are still interested in this. And no amount of yapping is going to change that.
Well, I actually assumed you were on this thread to speak for the tbrb. When someone questions rankings or asks about the championship rules you'd think they would want a representative to not use what's just his opinion as a defence. I don't bring up my opinion that Charlo is better than and would beat Cotto to insist that Cotto's middleweight championship claim is diminished.
Although interestingly enough you think that despite having been told that it's not the case twice. It's also been expressed in this thread that for some questions, TBRB's own website and question section is the best place to have them answered. I'm on the board; i'm a part of the process of updating the rankings. I'm well known on ESB and it's been (mostly) my pleasure to explain to the guys on this forum what the story is with the rankings as I see it. Of course, there are one or two crazies with an axe to grind due to their own conflicting projects/failures and that makes for an unpleasant evening. But no, for third time, I do not speak "for" TBRB, I started this thread of my own volition and it gladens me that it's one of the most viewed in the history of the forum.
Yeah, he is the MW champion. Just not the best MW in the world. OMG LOL is literally what you have been reduced to.
:-( is it not enough that i have to deal with that idiot without you reminding me of that terrible tragedy?
Nah, i'd be bumping it plenty. It might not be in the hundred thousands, but it's done better than most of the stickies on the general forum. Enjoy your bitterness.
Linearity is totally in the eye of the beholder. I spent about a year tracking the guy I felt was the best in the every division at every point of time but the truth was it was entirely subjective. Today we all know Cotto is champion and we all know Golovkin is the best. But what if Cotto is able to beat Golovkin? Subjectivity goes out the window with results, unless it is a debatable points decision. Linearity is just a device for tracing, nothing more, nothing less (in today's climate)
