Fact is, you're not a mod....you're not anything of importance in life.

 

His defense is fine, and he's adept at slipping punches when he focuses on it. His major defensive issue is that he'll get a little lax if he doesn't respect the punches coming back at him and eat shots he doesn't necessarily need to (like vs Ouma). If he respects his opponent's power, he's tough to hit cleanly (ie, the Macklin fight). He's also very good at positioning himself to retaliate quickly once he slips shots.

It's his defense and ability to quickly transition from defense to offense that set him apart from typical power punchers. It's a big reason why fighters are so reluctant to throw back or initiate the action against him.

 

Much like Chavez Sr., he does subtle things (defensively) that go unnoticed because people are reaching for flaws. Golovkin stalked his prey relentlessly and had Macklin on the defensive from the opening bell...despite getting caught by a hard left hook( and straight right shortly after). I can see him possibly running into trouble if/when he moves up and faces naturally bigger guys who'll take his punches better(Froch, Bika, Rodriguez) but until then, I can't see any of the current MW belt holders beating him. Quillen is too hittable, Sergio's main weapon(his mobility) is no longer the weapon it once was and Geale simply isn't good enough, IMO.

Golovkin is a brawler lol

Go and look at his amateur record just because he can hit hard doesnt make him a brawler,Golovkin has some lovely movement and punching technique hes a very good boxer.

Derrick has blinded himself to the true beauty of Golovkins greatness.....ie....his footwork.

He says that GGG gets hit too much....but when, and by who? He rarely takes a flush shot because he sneaks in just inside a fighters full extension, or stays just outside it until the shot has lost it's snap, then he takes the minimal damage punch and follows it with 3-5 damaging power punches, much like a young Tyson, but without all that energy sapping bobbing and weaving.


He may have a point about Ward though.....in Jokeland, with a G0053N referee, SOB would butt the **** outta GGG, and likely shred his brows.:shock:

But one punch from GGG to a lunging Ward and it's lights out.

Golovkin is the truth. He's a tough out for anybody at 154-160. People called it years ago that he'd be one special pro.

I think GGG is a real threat at 160, but I would like for the other top dogs to grow some nuts and fight him.


I especially would like to see Murray in there with him as I think that would be an excellent fight.


As far as the overhype? Yeah he's a bit overhyped at the moment, but I think he has really good promise.


I think Ward batters him, though. SO I guess I'm in the minority on that one.
