115-113 is 7-5, which is as far as one could go for Mosley, imo.

But then he started upping the comp and his performances got a bit iffy. Ndou gave him fits. Corley hurt him badly and looked to be on the verge of a KO...and cotto was 17 lbs heavier than corley. torres and cotto fought a barn burner taking turns hurting each other. Maliggnaggi came back from two kd's to hurt and stagger cotto late in the fight.

cotto was starting to look very vulernable against guys who aren't even elite.

Then came the judah fiasco. we all know what happened there. One of the most blatant examples of biased reffing in a long time. But IMO, it proved cotto was simply not a truly elite fighter.

Cotto's "win" over shane mosley was another debacle. I had it 8-4 possibly 7-5 for shane. But cotto was the marquee guy, with the huge following, so that's how it goes, i guess.

Clottey and cotto basically fought a draw, probably with a slight edge to clottey. But you just KNEW cotto would get the decision in a close fight against the far less popular african.

These fights left a bad taste in my mouth about cotto. To me, he had cheated against judah, got a robbery win against shane, got the benefit of the doubt in fights he deserved to lose....IMO cotto had been exposed, but boxing was propping him up because of his popularity....just like with canelo these days.

By the time he fought margarito, i was glad to see cotto finally get his comeuppance. i even rooted for pacman against him and was happy to see cotto take a bad beating...not because i hate cotto, but because his obnoxious fans had gotten out of control.

Then the mayweather fight which i felt floyd won with almost casual ease 10-2...and the obnoxious cotto fans acting like cotto deserved the decision because floyd got a bloody nose.

I was glad to see trout get the decision, because it was closer than it should have been...i fully expected trout to get robbed.

Now, after cotto beat a crippled margarito and a second rate bum in geale, the same cotto fans are back with their obnoxiousness. Talking about cotto is great now and nobody, including mayweather stands a chance against him. Those were two relatively meaningless fights. If mayweather had dominated and ko'd a clearly crippled sergio then blown out a non-entity like geale, he would be laughed at for "cherry-picking"...cotto gets praised.

DOn't get me wrong. I know a lotta fans are ignorant...i know a lotta this **** on boxing forums is posted by guys who either have a screw loose or will simply say any damn thing, fukk the world. Really, it's better to just ignore crazy, stupid people. But every once in a while, I like to set the record straight so people don't get too far off the ranch...and the fact is, cotto's record does not support any claim to "greatness"...he's very good. One of the best around today. I would certainly give him a good shot to beat canelo or ggg.... but I wouldn't rank him among the top 30 ww of all time.

Agree with many points. Especially the point made by losing to Trout. Honorable mentions for Cotto getting belts after a loss, Micheal Jennings who lived and played Wii in his mom's basement and Yuri Foreman who was another handicapped fighter whose wife stopped the fight. In boxing terms he's still an elite fighter but ranks low in the elite of the elite category. Cotto is always a beast against lessor caliber opponents.

I think PR has more than a FEW great fighters...but i don't think cotto is one of them.

Doesn't take much common sense to see this.......If Cotto beat Shane and you already beat the **** out of Cotto.....Why would you attempt to cheat against Shane????? Only one answer possible. He cheated against Cotto too.

Did you even SEE the fight?

what rounds did you give cotto?

Even the PR audience at the fight had cotto losing....

remember, cotto went into retreat around round 9...he showed signs of wilting form the early pressure and spent most of the last quarter of the fight backpedaling while shane stalked him and basically neutralized cotto.

This was a case of shane being looked at as a "stepping stone" fight for cotto becuase shane had suffered a buncha losses and was considered over the hill, while cotto was the undefeated, young, up-and-comer. What it proved was that shane was still an A-class fighter and cotto still had a lot of the liabilities we had seen from some of his earlier fights.

I am convince Cotto fans are just plain stupid. To act like there was any possibility of Margarito using "loaded gloves' against him is beyond ridiculous and shows you have absolutely ZERO knowledge of the procedures during a fight
