Yup, :good it was unheard of for lightweight fighters get 7 figure paydays ...Hamed Reveloutionised the game! :good
He ducked the best by offering career high pay days to Morales, Tapia and Marquez who all turned him down.:huh It's on record and the HBO commentary team discuss it before he faced Sanchez.
I dont think naz ducked anyone actually (bar one person)- he was one of the only fighters sports network seemed prepared to pair with almost anyone. There was the odd fighter he missed but the fact is he beat nearly every featherweight of note at the time he boxed... The guys he missed..... Angel Vasquez, was a highly reguarded and considered by some the next big thing the match was talked about and unfortunately for Vazquez his career never really took off. He was something like 16-0 13kos when naz was champ. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=5734&cat=boxer Hector lizzaraga Lizzaraga was a journeyman who sported a 5-7-3 record before embarking on a mega run which lead to him picking up the ibf title. A good fighter, but his subsequent loss to medina indicates he was not the man to beat naz and would have added little to his resume. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=483&cat=boxer There was also junior jones who might have been a dangerous proposition but had serious chin issues, Kennedy McKinney whose power again would have made him a danger- and perhaps the biggest one was...... Juan manual Marquez, the match was actually made and about a week before naz developed an illness, the show was cancelled and the match never spoke about again. Then pretty green- naz would probably have had too much for Marquez but still I do think juan anywhere near his best would, like Barrera being the perfect foil for his style.
Marquez would have stood him on his head. If Hamed won more than a round or two I'd be both surprised and impressed. Hamed vs Morales :yikes Not a fight I like for Naz.... well actually I do, seem as though I can't stand him
Good article. Im a believer that the fame and fortune got to Naz. Also Im not sure he was past his best when he fought Barrera, he was 28 which is probably a prime age for a boxer. As you said he didnt prepare properly I think thats also partly to do with the fact he thought he didnt need to. I also think the defeat destroyed him. Saying that Naz did bring boxing alive, everyone wanted to watch him and I mean everyone including non boxing fans, love him or hate him he was very entertaining and great fighter to watch.
I love Naz, **** it if he was a cocky arrogant ****, so am I and I like what I like and I like what I bloody well say............Yeah it looked bad when the wheels fell off, but so **** it was a hell of a ride.....Another Naz type boxer/character is exactly what boxing could do with now...........Miss ya Naz ya mad *******!
Ill give it a read looks like good stuff but before theres only one thing to be said about Hamed. Morales vs. Pacquiao I.
It’s not really a Groves/DeGale or Froch/Ward...... Barrera is actually a left handed orthodox.
