No offense but WHAT THE **** is up with that line? I guess he couldn't live up to the hype against Kelley, McCullough, and Soto right? Those don't count?
The Hype Hamed got or gave himself, was that of an unbeatable, incredible, all-time great, one of the best ever. He was none of those things, therefore he couldn't live up to that level of hype.
i know your not looking for advice but, anything i read that labels a group of people who have a different opinion to someone else, as "haters", just loses all credability to me. its childish and narrow minded and used just too much on this forum. excuse my spelling, i do not have a masters degree, and never will have. peace.
1 point you missed was Marquez, Barrera and Morales all turned down offers to fight Hamed at different. Either the money wasn't considered right or they wanted to wait for the fight, but to say it was a duck would be wrong. If anyone avoided Marquez it was Morales and Barrera, especially Morales as he was in the same stable. You say Norwood was a level below Hamed, I'd dispute that, I'd say he was a similar level, Norwood was very very good. Regarding your comments on McColough, you should have mentioned he was an unbeaten WBC Bantam champ, who many thought deserved to beat Zaragoza to become a 2 weight champ, coming into the Hamed match.
I'm a minor fan of Norwood. But his level of competition before 1999 was pitiful and I definitely don't think he was Hamed's level. He was a good fighter who on his better days could be competitive against the elite. It's hard to say who avoided who and when, who turned down who and when etc. that kind of speculation becomes infuriating and imprecise, but I believe around the time of the Augie Sanchez fight, there was some well documented ducking of Hamed going on. Although I'm sceptical about it, because ultimately people wanted to fight him because he represented a huge and unrivalled pay day. Someone summed up the JMM thing best when they said to me that basically, during Hamed's reign, to everyone apart from WBO rankings aficionadoes, JMM didn't exsist. McCullough was always a better fighter than his record and achievements suggest, those who know, know.
I'm surprised and disappointed you never discussed the issue of Hamad dealing with his sexuality crisis, had on his decline as a boxer.
Ah the monthly Hamed thread. This "article" has been put out before(or something like it)and simply a Hamed excuse piece(what a surprise),nothing more, nothing less. Now for the facts.First off,the pretty good but nothing special opponents that the article mentions were as such:Tom Johnson was 33 when he fought Hamed.THIRTY ****ING THREE.In the 2 1/2 years leading up to the Hamed fight,Kevin Kelley was stopped once by someone whose name I can't remember and also drew twice with 2 mediocre fellows, including someone whose record was 18-8 at the time of the Kelley fight. So what he had been a 2 time champ.By the time Hamed fought him,Kevin was not only past it,he was B- level at best.Funny how the author only claims that Hamed was "past it" by the time he fought Barrera, but fails to write the complete truth about Kevin.Soto and Medina? How many losses did they each have when they fought Hamed?McCullough?Wayne is a fighter that I'm a fan of,but he was a light-punching BANTAMWEIGHT with a granite jaw and the heart of a lion.He was NEVER a great featherweight.Bungu? The Hamed fight saw him moving up to featherweight after he had won a split decision and a majority decision in 2 of his 3 fights at 122 just before Hamed. At least the author put ancient Vasquez in his proper place while mentioning him.And at least the article doesn't brag about the Augie Sanchez victory because Augie was stretchered out once before Hamed and once after Hamed and still can't get a license to box in Nevada despite suffering only 3 losses(albeit by brutal ko)in his career. The fact is that Hamed beat pretty good but nothing special guys in his career,no matter how many belts he may have collected. As far as Marquez is concerned,so what he was "only" ranked #6 by the Ring at that time.Look at some of the mediocrities Hamed fought when he was on the go.JMM was still #1 WBO contender for at least 1 1/2 years, and Hamed only offered to fight Marquez once, expecting JMM to be ready within a month, thereby indicating he was never serious about fighting Marquez in the 1st place.Marquez is still mad at him.As far as excuses are concerned,I've never seen a fighter attributed to more excuses for just one loss(to EASILY the best fighter he ever fought). How many excuses are in this "article" alone?Quite honestly,it's pretty ****ing funny.
Hamed has a lot of people out there that dislike him because he was an arrogant and classless scumbag. He simply got what he deserved in the MAB fight.
A great part of his hype is something he himself invented with his over the top ring entrances and extraordinarily big, classless mouth. And there are those that post on these boards that insist he's an ATG featherweight
