So True mate!!! Hatton is only big draw in UK but people in America, Mexico, Dubai, Latin America, Asia are going to see Pacquiao..Its UK against the world....55-45 for Pacquiao is reasonable not only because of the people who will watch the fight but also their status..
The guy has a point. Hatton is not the most popular boxer in the world. He is only popular in Great Britain. Pac is.
Hey im not a hatton fan boy Im a boxing fan first so lets get that right :good But all im saying is Hatton is the most poppulay fighter in the country at the moment, he has the most travelling fans in the world and that is a fact. Yes some poeple thought he would beat mayweather and couldn't understand in the pub (where i watched it) when i told them mayweather was going win, they got quite upset Seriously though hatton has a far better chance of beating pac then floyd and sorry pac fans pbf beats pac 10 times out of 10 :good
Hatton takes more fans to weigh ins than nearly every fighter does to their actual fight Boxing is about paying fans who travel to see fights not just PPV figures and forum fans who don't know the full story In terms of revenue Hatton will draw just as much as Manny, and even if that is just from UK fans the numbers still stack up well 56,000 just to watch him fight Lazcano speaks volumes for his popularity The fact this fight isn't in a UK open air stadium is very disappointing and shows how much money and US television power holds over boxing...imagine the spectacle of 70,000 or more fans in an open air fight bewteen 2 exciting fighters Instead the UK fans who produce massive revenue have to travel half way across the world or stay up until 4,5am to watch it in a small venue in Las Vegas
Good lead article. Like it told you before DINAMITA you could be a good poster. {Don't go nuts if somebody puts up a valid opposite arguement, and don't be biased in favour of boxers you like or biased against boxers you dislike} I have been known to have a flutter, and keep a record of my bets, after 10 years and 1000's of bets i am actually making a profit, there is very few people that can say that ! , on checking my records i have only ever had 12 bets on boxing in that time period and won the lot When the fight was rumored to be at Wembley Stadium, plus i fancied Hatton at the weight, plus i believe Manny is not quite as good as he is hyped to be {he is still marvellous, but he is not unbeatable}, plus it was possible to get Hatton odds of 2/1 {money back if the fight never happens} I thought that would be an excellent bet, to be successful betting, not only do you need to be quite good at predicting you also need to recognise 'good value' . I saw this bet as good value because i gave Hatton a slightly better than evens chance due to home advantage and weight advantage, yet his odds was 2/1 against - that constitutes 'good value'. I have not had a bet on this fight, as i would only bet at the very last minute {literally when the boxers are in the ring}, but it now looks as if the fight will take place in America, i no longer see Hatton as a slight favourite in my mind, i now see it as 50-50. A lot of people would still bet Hatton if they perceive a fight to be 50-50, yet are able to get odds of 2/1 against, i myself now won't be betting as i only bet if a selection has an odds on chance in my mind, and this fight is 50-50. PS never have a large bet on a sport like boxing, only have large bets on team sports as an individual could underperform, be under the weather, pick up an injury, etc. Sorry to bore people about betting on this bout, but i thought it might be interesting to know how an investor weighs up a fight.
Firstly, it is not Hatton's fault that a lot of football-hoolie types who don't know boxing support him, a hell of a lot of genuine fans do too. It's like Man United, the southerners johnny come latelies who have never been to Old Trafford in their lives tar the true fans with the same brush. The money thing has been debated to death on other threads, but whilst Manny allegedly giving money to charity (there have also been stories that he gambles a lot) and being seen as p4p #1 is nice, it does not translate into bringing hard currency to the negotiating table. What do you expect people to say "okay Manny you can have most money if you give it charity". Boxing doesn;'t work like that. If Hatton-Malignaggi was boring, it was because only one guy was trying to fight. Nonetheless, Ring magazine, whose rankings I understand are compiled from the votes of a number of respected boxing writers. had him #2 as did Boxing Monthly,KO and all other independent publications. As for hearing that it did 200,000 less than Pac-Diaz, you've been reading too many Ikeyboy threads. If you believe this, you probably also believe the moon is made of cheese, the FBI shot John Lennon and Elvis and Lord Lucan are alive and working in Fred's fish & chip shop in Blackpool!
That may be nice. However, how many households in those countries are going to fork out the equivalent of £15 per head to watch the bout live. Most of the Phillipines watch Pac's bouts in a cinema on free broadcast! The US is the only country where people are going to pay to watch the bout to actually bring in some money! Pac doesn't do great numbers there (275k v Diaz, 550k for Marquez, a genuine superfight) compared to the 1.4m who watched Hatton-Mayweather!
The voice of reason!!! :happy:happy Excellent post, I'm glad that you've put it in perspective like this.

Thank you. I'm not overly interested in your personal opinion of me as a poster, so I'll skip to the next section of your post. I know that I do not react any more vehemently than anyone else on here to direct opposition, and I certainly know that I am not anywhere near as biased as most. If you disagree, I genuinely don't care, you're welcome to your opinion on me as I am of you. OK, back to boxing talk.... An interesting new slant on the debate, cheers for the input :good
If it's a disputed win for Hatton would you prefer to see a rematch with Manny or for Hatton to fight his rematch with Mayweather in the UK?? OR....... if it's a close/disputed win for Manny who out of JMM, Mayweather or Hatton would you want to see him fight???
Nice new avatar If it's a disputed win for Hatton, I'd like to see a rematch. I don't think there's any point in Ricky fighting Mayweather again - I don't believe he could beat Floyd even if the fight was in Manchester and he had Floyd Sr in his corner. If it's a close/disputed win for Manny, he MUST get Mayweather out of retirement for the biggest fight since Whitaker-Chavez or Hagler-Leonard. What do you think?
Great thread Dinamita. I'm a fan of both fighters and am just glad as hell when I found out the fight was back on. I'm ready for a war. And by God I fully expect to get one.
I'd love a rematch in the UK or the Philipines in an open air stadium fought during the day........ long shot I know.....but I can wish! Mayweather would come out of retirement for Pacquiao and I'd love to watch that fight...only fight left for either of them (rematches aside)
