but you also have to consider that a LOT more people have sky tv now (9 million) as opposed to when bruno v tyson happened (3 million).

The biggest ppv fight in U.K boxing history before Mayweather/Hatton was about 800k. No way in hell Hatton/Malignaggi did 850k.

As an American, you;re underestimating Hatton's popularity. He is probably the most popular fighter in the history of the modern game over here, at least in terms of getting people to actually form out cash to watch him. 1.4m watched him fight Mayweather and nobody knew who he was over here! That fight raised Hatton's profile even higher if anything.

Let's not overdo giving all the credit to Hatton alone. If nobody really knew who Floyd was in the UK, then why did the fight do 1.4M PPV buys and Hatton-Malignaggi never came close to that figure? According to the logic above, Mayweather and Malignaggi both don't amount to s__ in the UK and Hatton was the only one carrying the promotion. It's most probably true for Paulie, but Floyd? Are'nt we getting just a little overboard here?

    Of course! :patsch

PAC vs. Diaz = 250K in the US @ 50%

Hatton vs Paulie = Free in the US / ??? in the UK :yep

Clever marketing and word of mouth. Those who are boxing fans or Hatton fans passed the word around that he was fighting the best in the world bar none and there were a good number of casual fans who wouldn't normally stay up to watch boxing attracted to watch it who wouldn't normally stay up til 4am for a fight. Some of whom obviously didn't bother for the Malignaggi fight. Nonetheless, I find it hard to believe this was half of the viewing audience, hence why I think the 850k figure sounds reasonable.
