I fell that during his career he was over hyped. I fell that after his career he is underrated. He was very good and beat very good oppoents. Nassem Hamed belongs in the Hall of Fame.
Hamed was never great. He was good. When he finally fought a real great, he got owned, and then he quit.
I disagree hamed was great not only did he beat alot of top fighters in hes time but he did this while entertaining the whole crowd and that he did.
I don't know, on the website it just says they stopped awarding belts. Do they cost a lot to make? The Ring almost went out of business in the early 1990s.
I rememeber when Naz left Brendan Ingle, Ingle stated he had a set number of fights left in him (not sure of the exact number he stated). To my knowledge Brendan was, I think, one fight out on his prediction when Naz had is last fight in 2002 I believe. Goes to show how well Brendan knew him and his traits, as you would expect. Good fighter and could have/should have achieved a little more IMO. But the career he had was definitely a successful one for sure. Remember watching his early shows at the Ponds Forge Sports Centre in Sheffield back in the early 90's. Him and Ryan Rhodes. Good times.
His resume had PHENOMENAL depth, like DLH's. He's probably a little overrated, but he fully deserves a place in the HOF.
Good post. I don't think he fancied taking on Marquez to be fair but I can't say I blame him. Awesome puncher and he was f*ckin hilarious!
Respect to the OP for this. It baffles me for those who love "Boxing" can slate someone who brought so much enjoyment and skill to the game. If you only judge him on what he did in America then its not doing justice to the immense talent on display at his peak. But I wouldn't categorise him as great - Longivety is a characteristic which is undervalued. A person may have great potential but character & resolve needs to be shown over time. The Naz in the ring against Barrera was a shadow of the man pre-America and met his match in that fight. But he could have gone back and sorted things out after the loss but was out of love with the sport and couldn't be arsed putting in the effort. For this reason I can't classify him as great, if anything he's one of the greatest talents to be wasted considering all he achieved.
ha ha ha ha! Yeah, right enough, Steward is ****. Tommy hearns, wilfredo benitez, mike mc callum, Cotto, Lewis, Klitschko, gerald mc clelland are just some of the guys who used Steward at some stage:yep
