If Spence moves up through the weights from 147 154 160 to 168 beating the top names then yes he will be special. Do I think he can do that, no. The same goes for Crawford.

At the higher weight classes like 168 it's harder to do that. Ward is a great fighter and a HOF fighter but he's not fighter of the era level(special) like PBF and Pac were those 2 were special fighters. My definition of Special fighter is the best of the best.

Sorry but that is a load of crap pac and may started fighting professionally at what 19 and pac was 16... well they grew out of weight classes as they aged as is natural. Loma was what 26 when he turned pro and has already moved through 3 weight divisions. Floyd fought in basically 3 divisions after he turned 26 besides his money fights against ODH and Canelo. And he immediately returned to 147 and was too physically big to even make a catchweight of 145 against Marquez... Pacqiao after 26 fought in basically 4 divisions besides one fight vs margarito then he too stayed at 147b moving weight divisions is not what makes you great especially when you start fighting professionally in your teens boxers tend to mature physically until your late 20's and generally move up weight classes as a result. Pacqiao and Floyd by age 30 were both fighting at Welterweight and both stayed there besides a money fight only then to move back down to weltetweight. Loma started as a pro later in his life and is naturally smaller. He has no business at 147. Just like Floyd would have no business at 160.

Good post. It's incredibly annoying the way posters here talk about moving up in weight. Very few take the time to note their age when moving up. Or even the circumstances. 8 out of 10 times a guy moves up in weight due to weight making issues, or losing to the new champ of the division, not this "chasing a challenge" like many prefer to repeat.

Yeah the whole you need to move up to be great is the stupidest B.S. of course fighters who started as a pro in their teens are going to have fought in more weight classes then someone who started in their later 20's especially when the weight classes are 3-5 lbs different at lower weights. Hell how many journeyman went through 5+ divisions throughout their careers what are they greater by losing at multiple weights.... Moving up in weight does not make you great hell Hagler never moved up in weight classes he must be a bum.. neither did Ali fought in one weight class must be a bum.. SRR only won titles in 2 divisions whelp that's it he is not that great. Marciano 1 weight class =bum. The weight divisions equals greatness is the most short sided ridiculous things to judge ability on. Fighters turn pro at different ages makes a huge difference in how many classes they have fought in nothing to do with skill. Also as you move up the weight between divisions gets greater hence a middleweight fighting heavyweights is a taller task and if you are a heavy where you cannot move up what you can never be great. I mean wtf kind of logic is this.

That's a good argument. But Pac seems easily a weight or two division below Mayweather. They're not the same sized people.

Bernard lost his debut fight. Guess HE sucks big time!! Pac lost his 12th fight...what a total loser...no hope of either being an ATG right? o_O

i agree with the whole post, but i also use your line of reasoning to critique him, not just defend him. thats why i dont think he can beat garcia at 135, hes just a little too light in the ass to do what he does, vs a guy as big, and as good as mikey.

Yeah I think he is a bit small for 135 and I am not sure his power is enough to keep people honest as he goes up in weight.

He said “until someone puts it on Loma” Salido did just that doesn’t take away from him being a ATG or P4P 1. He’s been beaten and to be fair he hasn’t fought that style again since. Take his nuts out of your mouth

Says the guy hanging onto the Salido win.

The same Salido who has been offered a rematch and turned it down how many times now?

Salido not only missed weight and came in as a light welterweight, he also fouled throughout with impunity. All against a guy having his second fight and he also nearly got taken out in the 12th round all the whilst scraping a decision win.....ohhh great.

I had Lomachenko winning the fight, if Lawrence Cole had not been the referee it would have been an easy fight, but Salido cheated like hell, low blows all night, headbutts, holding, hitting after the bell, hitting behind the head, hell, listen to what the commentators were saying about the damned referee Cole! Salido's judges still called it a split decision, plus Salido said he was out on his feet in the last round. No, I have Lomachenko winning that fight. Salido was offered a lot of money for a rematch, but refused, then before the big money fight, Salido got stopped! Lomachenko would have knocked Salido out in the rematch. I wish Lomachenko would fight him as a tuneup fight just for the record, an easy knockout!!! Hell, some on here are still angry because Lomachenko beat their hero Gary Russell, Walters and Rigo! Spence is jealous of Lomachenko.................let Spence fight Porter next, but he won't!
