Lewis quivered in fear for a entire year, then turned down the biggest purse of his career to rematch Vitali. Not the way for an ATG to end his career, especially after being booed out the arena on his last fight. He really should have tried to put that right, but he didn't.

Most of the people who are so pro-Lennox now are just K-Bros haters who probably hated Lennox when he was fighting Tyson. He's just a convenient guy to like now if you hate the Klitschkos.

Vitali is grateful he had the chance to share the ring with Lewis. It's also gave his fans something to shout about 8 years later.
Plus Lewis gave the bros and their fans the pizza face material which they're still using to this day.

You should all be grateful to Lennox Lewis.

Don't know what most pro-Lennox fans are like, but I've been watching Lewis from day one and have always been a fan. I'm also a fan of Tyson and I'm a fan of the K-brothers.

    Why?

Because I can, and I'm a BOXING FAN first and foremost.

But I'm no fan of many of the Klitschko fans who can't seem to deal with reality or don't understand the basic rules of boxing when it comes to determining the outcome of a fight.

The point is, Lewis was widely disliked when he was champion.

He has far more fans now, especially among anti-Klitschko types (of which there are plenty on ESB) for obvious reasons. Plus, everyone likes you better when you're not fighting anymore.

But when he was fighting he was ripped in the US for being a "boring, safety-first jab artist." This claim was at its height after he fought Tua in a snoozer win. He was routinely negatively compared to Mike Tyson.

In the UK for a long time, he was seen as inauthentic, a "Canadian."

In Canada, he was ripped for being a traitor for leaving.

Who is arguing that Lewis didn't win the fight? It's the circumstances under which he won and what he did (and didn't do) afterwards that are the issue.

I think what it is mate is that Americans realise he was a ****ing good fighter all along (his supporters knew this anyway). Something there were struggling to come to terms with while he was fighting, because of the fact he was breaking they monopoly on the HW division.

Has for the British/Canadian/Jamaican thing...well i guess that just makes him a true world champ and man of the world.

There might be some truth in that. There is also some truth in the notion that anti-Klitschko types look to Lennox as the guy who beat the toughest of the brothers. And he is not a threat anymore to American sensiblities as he has been retired for awhile.

As far as where Lewis learned the sport, it was in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada, where he went to high school. His boxing roots are Canadian, and he won a gold medal for that country in the Olympics.

Indeed :thumbsup HW division will only be "good" again when an American is on top. According to Americans that is.
