Ruddock fought Lewis when Lewis was...what...something like 15? Quite a difference. Main difference in the fights, particularly in the second, is that when Tyson got hit hard he fired back. When Ruddock got hit hard he would tend to cover up. Razor was rarely the busiest of fighters and Mike was able to outwork him even though in terms of the heavy stuff they ended up pretty even. Ruddock's jab, as has often been said, went completely walkabout as well but that was the case for most of his fights post-Weaver. Such a good weapon, so neglected. Second fight is the better one IMO. First fight is basically Mike dominating until a wild finish to the sixth then the stoppage in the next. Second fight has everything. Including Mike getting 4 point deductions for fouls...isn't it normally a DQ loss if you lose 3 points? Ref discretion? I don't think given the furore to the end of the first fight that he'd want to DQ someone in the second...
I tend to agree. Everyone makes Lewis out to be this scary monster because of his amatuer career. I dont buy it, there have been plenty of dominant amatuers that didnt have the same success in the pros. Obviously Frank Bruno and Oliver Mcall werent scared of him, and from the looks of this interview either was Bowe. Seems like he believes the ref helped Lennox in his win over him in the olympics. I tend to agree it was a bit of a premature stoppage. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcRvHfocX2Y
I too think the olympic fight was a quick stoppage, having said that it certainly appears that Bowe ducked Lewis and one would have have thought there would have been a revenge factor that would have been eating away at Bowe, which would have helped make this fight happen. Sadly this wasn't the case. If nothing else it seemed to me that it would have been a great angle to hype.
It Wasnt Bowe who Ducked Lewis it was Rock Newman who was pulling the strings to keep the title for as long as possible i think in 1993 Bowe would have beat that version of Lewis because he came along alot better as a Pro at that point then Lennox.
No Im talking about the Lewis that threw away his belt to avoid fighting Chris Byrd. Did you read any of the prior posts? :blood
