Brock Lesnar vs Kurt Angle would have generated even more numbers. Where does it end? Is the UFC just going to be a popularity contest?
Nice Avatar... uh huh, giving Lesnar a title shot with a 1-1 record is screams credibility This content is protected
They should keep strikeforce around for all the guys who are exciting but limited and just put them in quality match ups. Pure entertainment no real incentive to find out whos the best.
Didn't he win that title shot by stoppage, taking the belt from one of the unquestioned legends of MMA? And didn't he then immediately avenge his pre-title loss via TKO? And then come back after being hospitalized by an extended, ongoing, life-threatening illness to submit a top contender who was an undefeated wrecking machine? Sounds like he was a credible title challenger to me. :good :hat
look pal u can talk about his acclompishments, hospitals all u want: giving a title shot to vince Mcmahons superstar with a 1-1 record IS NOT CREDIBLE...period
And then he won it, and successfully defended it. Brock's title reign was longer and more impressive than Cain's. And his resume is better than Cain's as well. :good :hat
That is why I said the UFC don't employ as much bull****. They still do questionable things. However, if in boxing you were battering a former champ and then got ko'd and then beat a top 10 contender then a title shot would certainly not be out of the picture, especially if you were such a big sell. There have been exceptions but 98% of the time the UFC work in a way the fans only wish boxing could.
I agree. Guys like Gonzaga, Vera etc who they want to cut can fight in SF and still give us great fights and some of them will retain their form and warrant a call up to the UFC. I also thought the UFC would use SF as a buffer org. A way of not monopolising anywhere but still stopping no org from reaching their size because if the UFC doesn't poach the competition then SF could. For example SF could snap up Alvarez, Aoki, Lombard etc
arty That's all I expected from the start. Seriously, at the time I did think it was a bit of a pisstake. But it's not like the HW division is stacked now, and it was worse then. It's not like he leapfrogged a half-dozen guys to get the shot. Subsequent events have shown it was legitimate. Brock was an established name, and that got him a shot. But he was also a physical freak with very legitimate wrestling credentials and name recognition/fan interest was off the charts. He won the title, then successfully defended against a very legitimate, dangerous, undefeated contender. For me, that makes his title shot legit in retrospect. :good :hat
Kimbo v Brock was a no brainer when they first were coming through, that would've set records or sure................. that ship has long sailed. I agree with the UFC being a franchise WWE - That is the market they need to take because people understand the sport is really only a poormans boxing. Not dissing the UFC but when you see blokes like Clay Guida on national TV u just shake your head in disbelief atsch
woa woa woa......... dude: beat an Old herring, lost to Frank mir some how that was enough for a world title shot won against the most pathetic version of couture weve ever seen avenged his loss against mir beat carwin after getting brutally pummeled got destroyed by Velasquez nice try, you get a 9 out of 10 for self confidence and 10 out of 10 for deepthroating lesnars shaft thats tattoed on his chest..
I said I thought him getting his initial title shot was a bit of a pisstake. Personally I would have made him take one or two more fights. But he's been thrown in at the deep end, and he's done fine. And who else really deserved the shot but missed out because of Brock? Personally I would have stopped the Carwin fight when Brock was on his back, though he was always conscious and was defending himself, however feebly. But he rallied and ended up with an impressive win, which became more impressive as the truth emerged of just how sick he was for the year before the fight. And I'm not a Brock nuthugger. I like the guy and think the HW division is better with a healthy and motivated Brock in it, but I'm a long way short of a nuthugger. I just think he cops a lot of flak that isn't deserved. Besides, who really puts the hard yards in? I didn't hear too many people criticizing Cain's title shot. He had a win over old Nog and a win over Kongo. Then he took the belt off a champion who was suffering serious health issues, then he got splattered by one punch in his first defence, and had a title reign lasting sixty seconds. Maybe Cain isn't legit either hey? :good :hat
