Just watched this documentary on Pritchard Colon, very sad stuff. I used to watch Pritchards fights and was excited about him. Then this disaster happened which I saw on TV. And to think you can watch his last moments of consciousness in this short clip. This content is protected
Yeah, we as fans get caught up in all the nonsense in the build up of fights and really don't take into account how dangerous the sport of boxing really is sometimes. I saw this, or part of it a while back and immediately felt like an ass! In the build up of the Jacobs/Golovkin fight I made a terrible statement saying I wanted G to be ruined. I never said anything like that before and I will never say that again. I'll not go into the details of why I made those comments, because there is no excuse for making them to began with. I Just want to say sorry to G and his fans for those comments.
Yeah that was rather ignorant of you to say. No matter how much i dislike a fighter which at this point there is really only one i dislike i never wish him any permanent physical harm. Its cowardly. I also find it cowardly how so many people on this forum are so quick to call fighters "scared" or "cowards" when these guys take the biggest risk when they step in the ring. There are no guarantees that youre going to wake up the next day being yourself if you wake at all. Pritchards story absolutely broke my heart. I was a fan and fellow Puerto Rican and what happened to him is a travesty and a failure by his corner, the ref and the ring doctors who allowed this to happen.
It was beyond ignorant of me! My anger has been my biggest downfall in my life! When I get mad I get the "F" it" attitude and as long as I know your going to feel pain, I will go through hell for you to feel it! Very bad attitude to have. I must say I have gotten better with age , but from time to time the rage shows its ugly face and the G comments are proof of that. Once again, my apologies!
Atleast Your man enough to acknowledge it. I had a similar attitude but as you get older you calm down and especially when you have a kid. You seem like a good guy and being honest about your short comings as a man is a great step toward personal growth. Good luck to you bro.
Like the guy after PED cheats in the sports, boxing needs to start going after incompetent referees and corrupt judges.
That was upsetting to watch. Really tragic situation. Feel so sorry for both him and his family. I wouldn't wish what happened to him and what his family has had to go through since on my worst enemy. Hopefully he can recover to the point where he's at least able to live some semblance of a life but sadly it doesn't look very hopeful.
This may sound harsh but why can’t doctors just pull the plug when there’s pretty much zero chance of returning to a normal state. I don’t think it’s fair to keep someone in a vegetated state for the feelings of others. I read McClellan’s book and it’s not just the lying around all day that’s bad, but also the constant physical pain that they’re in as well. I just don’t see the point for all the needless suffering.
Mostly legal reasons, its a morally complex problem also. In italy they will keep a person on life support in till they can confirm that they are brain dead. Modern medicine is so advanced You see someone like Schumacher, he's in worse condition than this and was kept alive by modern medicine...the thing is even with catastrophic brain injuries some people can make remarkable recoveries so they have to try...and it's impossible to judge how much of a recovery if any is made. You may end up with a shell of a person who can't even make a decision to be given a humane death if they wanted to. It's easy to look at this and say to yourself "If that was me i'd rather be dead" But there are people who end up in these situations and say no, I want to live. The survival instincts are strong even if you end up living a life people look in at and think it has no quality. It's people with brain injuries and their mental capacity is so far diminished and it's not even the same person anymore that's the worst.
