I never saw an argument for Oscar when I watched it. That night, I had the impression Floyd was always a little ahead and Oscar should've been proud to just be in the fight so well and lose with dignity. I really have got to see it again ay? I'm a fan of Oscars any day over Floyd but that's just how I remember it.
Patterson, first 3 time champion, potential third Liston bout or a dream match between him and Frazier.
GGG witht 2 decision wins vs Canelo is talked about as greater than Marvelous Marvin Hagler. He makes $50 Million in his next fights and is the biggest star in the sport.
I had it a draw. Oscar:2,3,4,6,7,8 Floyd: the rest. One judge gave Oscar 7 rounds. As for Tito... 8-4 Oscar 9-3 is also reasonable.
Huh, I’ll need to look into this. I really don’t remember it being that close. I’ll get onto it! They’ve got it in super high HD on DAZN well by my viewing standards anyway. As for Tito, yeah Oscar had that easy.
Robin Reid beating two of the longest reigning Super Middleweights "Calzaghe" "Ottke" Emmanuel Augustus was also shafted alot in his career by close decisions.
A lot of great picks here, especially since I have been a Lockridge advocate for so long. It's odd how he consistently proved he could hang with guys of the highest caliber but gets glossed over. I saw Golovkin's name. You could add Lara to the mix. At the very least, Lara should have gotten the decision against Williams, could have against Alvarez, and probably edged Castano, who is engaging in his second attempt to become "the man" at 154. Lara is one of the greatest junior middleweights regardless but going officially 3-0 against these men would have been a tremendous boost. How about Reggie Johnson? One could say he nipped the Toney and the Tarver fights (if I remember the latter correctly), as well as both Castro bouts. I haven't seen the Jackson fight but it appears close on paper. If Jackson or potentially just Jones was his only loss outside of the early George defeat, that's mightily impressive. Two Ghanaians strike me here, too. Imagine if Quartey gets the nod over De La Hoya? He certainly deserved the verdict against Forest. Clottey arguably beat Cotto. He was also on his way to beating Margarito until something stymied his work rate. Billy Graham is one that deserves mention. If he gets a win over Gavilan for the Welterweight Championship, his legacy is viewed quite differently. He arguably could have gotten some verdicts over Basilio and Giardello, too. A lot of people thought Mikaelyan beat Briedis in the WBSS tournament. If he would have won, it would have been him going to the finals to fill start a new championship line after Usyk vacated.
Shoji Oguma had three close fights with Miguel Canto and two close fights with Betulio Gonzalez, in which he went 1-3-1. If he'd gone 5-0 in those fights, he might be seen as the best flyweight of the '70s and a deserving hall of famer. Then again, maybe not. He still lost convincingly to Alfonso Lopez and got knocked out by Gonzalez and inferior talent Kimio Furesawa. Gonzalez would probably be an easy hall of famer if both of his SD losses to Canto had gone in his favor instead, but I don't know of anyone other than Rafael Cartaya (Venezuelan judge for both bouts) who scored either of those fights for him. Marlon Starling maybe goes down as the top welterweight of the 1980s if he splits his fights with Curry (the second one was competitive, but, again, I've never heard anyone say that he deserved to win it) and wins both fights with Breland. Similarly to Oguma, though, he'd still have the Vilella and Molinares fights putting doubt in people's minds. I wonder what it would do for Reggie Johnson's standing to have won the fights with Toney, Jackson, and Castro. I know I've heard arguments in his favor for each of those.
Julio Cesar Chavez getting his rightful win over Pernell Whitaker would have rebounded his already active decline.
Vaughn Bean if he wins his close and awful fight against Moorer winning the IBF title, then could in theory get a title defense or two an a big purse against Holyfield, Tyson, Lewis. We all missed out on the shake and bake era Ezzard Charles if he beat 1) Walcott in his last match or 2) decisions Marciano to become the first 2 time heavy champion
One more Tony Marshall, guy was constantly in close losses and draws. Some of those sideway decisions or draws turn out his way maybe he gets a title win in the 90s.
