Ndou was 31-1 with 30 KOs at this time as well. I swear, some of these Mayweather haters must have just started to watch boxing because Mayweather has his fair share of good/exciting fights. People act like Pacquiao vs Barrera II wasn't a freaking snooze-fest just because Pacman is the flavor of the month. Every fighter has their fair share of boring fights. Sometimes the styles just match up that way. It just takes a certain kind of fighter to bring the best out of Mayweather, IMO. Mayweather is content with pot-shotting to a UD but when the fighter has brought the fight to Floyd, he has always responded in impressive fashion.
:goodone of the best 3 fights that year. the problem is floyd is he doesn't TRY to make it exciting when he doesn't have to, the n'dou fight aside
Its about priority. A runners priority is to not get hit, at the expense of not hitting his opponent first. This results in the fighter not taking chances, thus throwing 10 punches in a fight because that is the 10 times he had 100% chance of not being hit whilst able to hit. Then there are those who first and foremost TRY to hit first, try to do damage...which is the name of the game. At the same time though, whilst trying to do damage, getting out of the way of returning fire. The 2nd type of fighter wants to create action but of course trying to minimise damage unto himself. The first fighter simply doesnt want to get hit so will never instigate the action and will only ever hit when he is 100% sure he wont get hit, doesnt take chances. Its prizefighting, entertainment...people are entertained by violence...the 2nd fighter minimizes the violence. To make this simple for some here are some examples: Fighter who hit and not get hit: Ali - hit and not get hit, ali will hit you, punish you and then get out of the way to not get hit. Tyson - Tyson will hit you as that is the name of the game, and then move his head side to side to not get hit himself. SRL - SRL will hit you, whilst using superior skills to not get hit. Sweet Pea - Pea will throw a lot of punches tying to hit you, whilst making you foolish when you try to hit him. Fighters who dont wanna get hit and maybe hit: Spinks - This man will engage as little as possible, act as if he doesnt want a fight, run from confrontation, not throw punches and when he sees 1 or 2 openings a round, he will maybe take a chance and hit. He prioritises not getting hit. Floyd(against baldo) - the guy seemed petrified, will run all night as if he didnt want to be in that ring...and when he has an opportunity, he will hit. Priorities...boxing judges should award points for aggresion, they take risk in making the fight exciting and they dont have to neglect defense either. And im a counterpuncher...but I know that if I wait on my opponent all night, and my opponent chooses to wait on me all night...we wont have a boxing match...
I agree. Like I said, I think it takes a certain kind of fighter that is willing to bring the fight to Floyd to bring the best out of him. Mayweather is content with pot-shotting to a UD.
Also, what is overlooked in the fights they accuse Floyd of running. Castillo outweighed Floyd by 9.5 pounds, (also Floyds first fight at that weight), Baldomir outweighed Floyd by 10 pounds, and Oscar outweighed Floyd by 10 pounds. Instead of giving him credit for beating fighters that much bigger than him, they call it running. I also ask the question, what fights have Pac been in that he was outweighed by 9 or 10 pounds?
every sport evolves whether people like it or not.....personally i dont find anything wrong with how Floyd fights....but i dont find anything wrong with how Pac fights either....i dont see how i guess "boxing fans" would knock either fighters style when both are proven working styles and they DOMMINATE opponents.....as a boxing fan i just dont see how you can knock either fighter.
Written by a self proclaimed "real boxing fan":rofl( more like a casual fan who's been bullied in school) nothing more. His arguments are based on biased scenarios and again "people beating each other up, but no one beats Floyd"... :tired Fill the sport with this kind of boxing and cricket will mow it down.
i've never opposed floyd's style i admire the sweet science as i do a bloodbath or multiple knockdown fight. what i am unsatisfied with is floyd's unwillingness to fight the best at 147 or his weight division if it his division. if many of his fans think he would of beaten margarito the way shane had, why didn't he fight him? hell, he won't even fight margarito today, plaster or no plaster. their excuse is that since marg and baldo fight similar and shane beat margo, floyd does the same. WRONG :-( i have no hate for him, but he's a businessman first, as he claims, and a very bad one at that. so as long as he keeps wasting and spending his money the way he does i think we might actually get to see him in the future still fighting, and in one of those fights, he's not going to be calling the shots anymore, so he won't get the advantages he's had at welter. i give him cred for his accomplishments 135lbs on down, that is legit, that is credible to be an atg at those weights, but credibility simply can't be given to him at welterweight for beating a weak baldomir and a weak judah who was never even a welter.
Bias article. At lease Mosley, Williams, Margarito, Cotto and Pac did fight one of the guys on the list. Mayweather is too scared to.
I know what boxing is, and Floyd is boring. He doesn't engage, he doesn't fight. He takes 'hit and not get hit' to a completely ridiculous level. Watch the Baldomir fight to see what I'm talking about. Floyd's style is to potshot and avoid damage. He does that by fighting guys who can't keep up with him physically, or are stylistically outmatched. He was a lot more impressive in his earlier career when he let his hands go and took more risks. Now he's just a safety-first, boring, overrated fighter.
Well written but biased article. Some facts but mostly opinion. Author doesn't even put out his complete name. Geez, I wonder why... To D. Berry, Explain this... Floyd Mayweather Jr. fought his first welterweight fight December 2005. That's 4 years ago and no fights yet with Mosley, Berto, Margarito, Williams, Cotto, Clottey. Stick to the question when answering meaning Oscar De La Hoya, Marquez, Hatton are not part of the question. Regards, C. Man
I hate people who claim they know what would happen in a fight. By all means make a prediction but too say PW or MP dosn't stand a chance is just blind nuthugging towards Mayweather.
How is that? This PW BS of him being such an avoided and threatening fighter to Floyd is just that. Pure bull****. Paul can't draw flies. He's a good fighter, but has pretty bad technical skills. He isn't going to be throwing 1000 punches like he usually does. Hell, even with the size difference I think Pacquiao might beat him. I've said well before this that PBF/Williams is just PBF/Corrales II. Tell me what exactly Williams could possibly do in that fight? Pacquiao/Floyd would be closer, but probably not a close fight.
How do you know PW won't throw 1000 punches you can predict but unless you have some kind of time machine you don't know that.
