At first glance it seems there isn't much in common between Floyd and Fury aside from them both being champion prize fighters. Looking past appearance and nationality, their boxing careers have some remarkable parallels: Named after a famous heavyweight boxer (Jr. through his father) Both father and uncle were pro boxers Father went to prison right as pro career began to take off, subsequently trained by uncle Spent time living in Michigan learning the sweet science Lengthy mid career retirement, returned to annihilate top opposition (Wilder & Marquez) Considered the best defensive boxers of their size ever Considered a feather fist by detractors Gift of gab - can hype a fight better than anyone. Skilled in media Undefeated Preferred belt is the WBC Preferred town is Vegas (Fury probably wouldn't have left were it not for Kinahan) No tats, shaved head look Huge era-defining showdown against a beloved, smaller southpaw that many will say is past his best (we'll see on this one) Did WWE stuff Lured a big name MMA fighter in for a payday Set to be in a fight that shatters financial records There are many more, but the dad's going to prison and former pro uncles stepping in is very interesting.
Both controversial wins that could be losses Both scared of losing zero Both steroid cheats Both accused said southpaw of steroids Fury following Floyds blue print post Wilder 2 for real though eventhough he doesnt come anywhere close to Floyds talent, work ethic and resume.
Interesting post. Some differences: Fury has been willing to fight in the backyards of long-reigning champion fighters as the B-side, whereas Mayweather wouldn't even leave Vegas for the 2nd half of his career. Fury has been consistently grossly underrated (@Guerra is a good example), as evidenced by the fact that Fury was the underdog vs Chisora 1, Wlad, Wilder 1 and Wilder 2 in fights that happened and would have been the underdog vs Price, Vitali, Haye, Wlad 2 and Joshua. Fury fought arguably the two biggest punchers of all time in his weight class (a combined four times) and one within 6 months of his return in a quasi-exhibition, coming off severe depression, morbid obesity, alcoholism, drug use and 31 months of inactivity.
Every one knows fury’s a duck, spin it every way you want but his resume is weak af, and that’s on him.
"Every one knows fury’s a duck" Even if true, so is Mayweather. "resume is weak af" That's your opinion. How many better ones can you name in the last 20 years? There aren't any conclusive answers.
