It looks like Joseph "The Scots-executionier" Laryea is getting a world title shot from Ricky Burns. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/boxing/9368489.stm

Back in December, the unknown from Ghana, upset the odds by destroying a highly rated Scottish prospect Paul Appelby. It looked like Appleby underestimated his opponent and Lareya's good jab and weird movement made Appleby pay a very high price, the price of blood (as well as the big fight with Burns):

Let's be realistic, looking at his previous losses to weaker opposition, Laryea has to considered a huge underdog against a proven fighter like Burns. Laryea is just supposed to make Burns look good and you can certainly criticise Burns' people for making this fight.

Do I think Laryea has a chance? Well, if Burns underestimates him, doesnt train and Laryea produces something really special, then who knows. Otherwise I just hope that Laryea will give a good account of himself and make it entertaining and at least slightly competitive.

There are some empty seats on the express so feel free to join in!

What do you mean alba? Is it a derogatory term? I wouldn't know, English is not my 1st language...

Well Hagman, It's just a stay busy fight for Burns, I think he will fight one of the other belt-holders this year. Fana or that American guy.

i think burns could be termed a braveheart, just as easy as laryea could be termed long shanks.

Longshanks is actually quite good, portside, as Laryea is lanky and long-legged. So if he somehow beats Burns that should be his new moniker.

This is such a **** fight its almost unreal. But this is boxing, Frank Warren and the WBO I suppose. Disgraceful fight, a commonwealth title fighter under the guise of a world title.

That is actually the most common mode of transport in Ghana, Hairy Highlander.

Laryea talks about Ricky Burns and the fight:
“He is strong, he can fight but when I am the opponent, he will run from the ring. He is not a toy so he will also fight but I assure my fans and all Ghanaians that I will not disappoint them. They should all pray for me and that night they should sit by their DSTV and watch me and I will win for them and the nation,”

The big fight is soon! Recently some bookmakers improved odds on Burns, anyone knows why? Maybe the training camp not going well for Burns? Or maybe its just people making bets for Laryea and natural change in the odds.

The division isn't exactly full of p4p stars, is it?

Burns had a tough fight with Martinez, he intends to fight a unification later this year. I don't see a problem when boxers mix an easier fight or two with the 50-50 tough fights. Burns has a chance to showcase his skills to his fans. Burns is a modest, good guy, his fans should not abandon him because he takes an easier title defence.

Arthur, Cook, Martinez, Burns....I mean if The Afrobum wins this WBO super featherweight title can claim the 'worst lineage in a titles history' award without any close competitors.

Super featherweight as it stands, is a **** division with one World title belt. Uchiyama is decent, but is being called as the man to unify the division. And he's great value but not an 'Elite'-level fighter IMO. People are hoping Burns fights Fana. What an uninspiring fight as the 'most wanted' in a division.

Awful, awful times until either Gamboa/Lopez moves up and destroys everyone. Hell, Hasegawa could come in light and beat all of these guys IMO (Uchiyama would beat him probably) and is not feasibly in the top ten at 126 yet. It's absolutely dire.

I really like Burns, but moreso than ever his ABC bauble means absolutely nothing......but better purses for him I s'pose.
