Jim Braddock beat Baer because he had a style advantage and was in his class, not because Baer was a big lovable lazy chump. He was also good enough to beat Schmeling had he met him soon after instead of just waiting it out. Jack McAuliffe is one of the greatest LW's of all time, top 5, and has an argument to be as high as #1. Roy Jones was better at LHW than MW. Watson was better than Eubank and Benn.
Although the second Ali-Frazier fight did n't have the drama of the first one,or the sheer brutality of the third,it was n't as bad as a lot of people see it.
I was a big fan of Roy Jones growing up and would've laughed at you in the past but I would agree right now. I don't believe he would've won against Spinks and I would certainly favor Ezzard Charles over him, who had much more success at HW than him and was a technical master of this sport. I'd favor Jones over Saad, but is there a fighter harder to rate than him ? With his heart and recuperative powers, he could get up from the canvas and KO about anyone. Jones is a bad match up against Moore in my opinion. Too much mobility and speed for the great Archie. I'd favor Roy over Qawi for the same reason, but with much more doubts in my head. What if Dwight walk through Jones's punches like he always did and get to Roy's chin ? The guy was a hell of a swarmer and he would have a chance !
Great post Brownies :good But McGrain I tend to agree. Exactly the kinda' style tostolCharles picking his spots and building his rhythm, and Roy would be out of there before Charles could catch him coming out as he did so well. I'd pick Roy, but no guarantee. I consider Foster a bad matchup for Jones though. That jab first, and then what comes off it :-(
