Roy was a rhythm fighter at the weight, too, though.

True, but a far less conventional rhythm. And he's faster. So I'd pick Roy.

Boxing fans need to keep and eye on lineal titles, we cannot rely on ABC orgs to do that for us, not if they insists on stripping and multiplying belts.

Its also important to keep an eye on champions who choose to forget the abc orgs like Barrera did at Feather. Pacquaio's over him for example was for the a legitamate championship and it should be noted.

Jones is top 5 all time pound for pound.

I thought The draw between chavez and Whitaker was a reasonable decision.

Primo Carnera was a better fighter than given credit for.

Good call...I'd never thought of that one before, but Mercer does have the tools to give Mike a tough fight, if not pull the upset should Tyson gas. Surprised I'd never seen that one mentioned before.

Here's a couple ones I've been thinking about....

H2H I think Meldrick Taylor gets overrated on account of his handspeed and willingness to trade, which made for entertaining fights. The tradeoff is that he didn't have great punching power and got hit too much. I think, say, Kostya Tszyu is all wrong for him.

Conversely, I think Hatton would always be a tough matchup for Tszyu because pressure bothered Kostya more than speed did.

Finally, I think Witherspoon would've beat Holmes had there been a rematch.

Johnny Verderosa would've beaten Sammy Serano had they fought in 1982.

While I see the logic there, and largely agree, luf has made a good case against this before. If a guy is the lineal champ but then, at least hypothetically, hangs around fighting lesser competition while someone else is really THE man in the division, the latter should get credit over the former even if he never is "lineal." Lineal championships also have all sorts of problems with retirements.

Without the magical hand of Don King, the career of Michael Dokes probably goes nowhere.

Oh........I strongly disagree, with all due respect,Maxie. The Ali of 1970-75 beats Rocky.

Only the true lightheavyweight legends like Tarver and Johnson could ko Jones.
