Like a lot of people, had a good laugh yesterday at Carl's Twitter tiff with Joe Calzaghe. What was really telling though, was the general reaction to it. It was overwhelmingly pro-Calzaghe, with Froch reduced to tweeting some nonsense about having a ''straightener'' with Joe. I think there are a few reasons why. Froch's entourage are, Rob McCracken aside, to put it politely, an acquired taste. The brother behaving as though he's fighting Carl's opponent himself, the girlfriend who's been known to scream obscenities at his opponent for the entire duration of a 12 round fight, the mum saying George Groves would leave the ring on a stretcher, his own promoter saying he's seen Carl humiliate fans politely asking for an autograph ''as a joke''. The main reason for me though is the way Froch behaved before and after the first George Groves fight. Enraged to the point of tears that Groves didn't toe the line and tell him what a great fighter he was, Carl embarrassed himself in the build-up, promising to hurt George badly, then got badly beaten for 7 rounds during the fight before his physical toughness and a friendly referee secured a stoppage in 9. Booed out of the ring, Carl showed no desire for a rematch until Groves' relentless campaign to secure one and Eddie Hearn's cheque book eventually saw Froch vs Groves 2. We all know the rest, 80,000 people, chopping trees, KO win..... For all his financial and in-ring success, Carl Froch really seems an insecure personality, ultra-sensitive to the slightest criticism and with a sense of humour and ability to self-deprecate that are seemingly always on 'off' mode.
However you choose to look at it, he's an arrogant twunt. There's no irony to his arrogance, it's genuine. The bit that sealed it for me is when he called himself an international superstar.
I've always been a fan of Froch in the ring but I think 90% of people's dislike comes from his out of the ring personality, also he does seem really insecure which I don't really understand as even on Saturday night he admitted most of his boxing skills are sheer brute strength and heart, so why does it bother him so much when people say boxers like calzaghe who clearly were much better boxers with better ring iq are better than them?
joe accusing some one of not fancying it oh the irony what about froch joe what about ottke joe what about roy as you put it not past it though joe what about hopkins years earlier gtfoh
I never understood why he hasn't gone the Nigel Benn route of PR aka "I like a tear up and I always give value for money to the fans" which is hard to dispute. Instead he comes across as a touch awkward as well as having an alleged massive ego.
British public do not like froch because they can't identify with someone who is educated, devoted to their wife and kids and takes on all corners. They would rather support thugs, drug addicts and frauds who duck the best. Thats why fighters like khan, Haye, Hatton and Nasseem garner more support even though their resumes are a joke compared to a legend like Froch.
Carls main problem is he wants to be everything, he wants to be the warrior he wants to be the ring smart technical boxer, he wants to be seen as a legend and gets irate with anyone who doesn't think he is one, also even In his closer fights he wants to say he absolutely smashed people up "except for Andre ward but in Nottingham that would be different" he's the type that would get knocked out and give the guy who did it no credit at all
World champion rough and tough em style boxer has huge ego and has an arrogance problem Who'd have thought it?
Which over time has changed to "he could never have a war with me" "he'd never come to Nottingham" "I'd bash him up in Nottingham" his compliments to Ward are normally very backhanded
No he wants a big fight that is going to generate large interest. Ward is not even a big name in the uk, most casuals never even heard of him
So he fancies his chances in Nottingham. Doesn't negate the fact that he admitted the best man won on the night when they fought.
