If there was a list of them, they wouldn't be unwritten! Just kidding! It's a good question. I think this happens to a lesser degree these days, but in the 1970's there was the "You have to TAKE the title from the champion" rule. Lots of folks will tell you that Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes benefitted from this "rule." We do still see this with the "the edge goes to the moneymaking fighter" rule. That is, if someone is developing a name, like a new prospect, or already has a name, he'll get the call. The Buster Douglas - Louis Monaco fight comes to mind. So does the Douglas - Tyson fight, when they tried to say that Tyson won by KO in round 8 and take away Douglas' win.
Yes. There is one CLEAR unwritten rule in boxing. Don't load your gloves. If you load your gloves and get caught, you will never be forgiven. Ever. Just about anything else will be forgiven. Not that.
Seems silly considering the health risk. Forget 5 minutes, i remember i ended the entire sparring match because a low blow. Thought i was about to die. All his punches combined didnt compare.
I completely agree with you. I've just noticed the phenomenon over and over. The commentators even say, on a regular basis, "Of course, he won't take the whole five."
Does this mean you are allowed to walk over, and crack your opponent a good one while he is sitting on his stool?
You have to embrace your opponent at the end of the fight, even if you've been beating the living **** out of each other for the past 12 rounds.
Petty sure this is a written rule in the Philippines, it's used a lot over there when fighters do fail to make weight
