For a long while now, DKP and GBP have conspired to keep the legitimate top welters and jr.middles out of the picture. They have conspired to lock such names out of the big money fights and out of the public spotlight by denying them legitimate rights to title shots and big fights.

Even today some fanboys will protest the legitimacy of those who hid in the shadows for so long, in obscurity. But it's quickly becoming hard to ignore.

With Daniel Santos' spectactular knockout of Joachim Alcine, Antonio Margarito's thrilling TKO victory over Miguel Cotto and soon to be Joshua Clottey's UD over Zab Judah, there is a new revelation happening in these two weight classes.

For too long have these guys, and others such as Sergei Dzinziruk lingered in obscurity.

While DLH was courting the P4P entrants and big stars from the 90s, guys who were well known to be dangerous were avoided for greener pastures. Don King did his part to ensure that his three, Mayorga, Spinks and Judah would compete without threat. And when his grip was relenquished, it was given to another (Mayweather) who knew of this conspiracy, and who acted within it.

Mosley and DLH for example, have long known of The Razor from the East. They have long known of the name Dzinziruk, yet have never wanted to go there. They also knew of Margarito. DLH, after being handled by Felix Sturm, learned his lesson about stepping up to the upper class. Mind you he was knocked out by Hopkins, but the disparity did not end there. It stretched from middleweight down to welter, in which all weight classes had legitimate threats long ignored.

What happened was a round robin of Mayorga rapings, which started at welterweight as Cory Spinks got a gift decision against Mayorga. DKP wanted to cash in on the brash brawler before any hype could build between him and Margarito (controlled by Arum).

From there it went from Trinidad, to DLH, and now Shane Mosley. All DKP/GBP fighters. All in on the cash cow and the conspiracy to hide from YOU, the people, the legitimate heirs to the thrones. Mayorga, who had made a name for himself, became a gimmie for hasbeens to catapult themselves back into the public spotlight after layoffs or embarrassing losses.

Thankfully that day is just about done. If Clottey gets by Judah it will be the last of an old guard which was established in a game of deceit. The Mosley-Mayorga and the DLH-Pacquiao fights are two of the very last embarassing moments for the sport on the horizon. Hopefully nobody will throw Mosley back into the top 3 on the strength of beating Mayorga down, which is inevitable. And hopefully, if Pacquiao manages to beat DLH, nobody throws the two divisions in disarray thinking Pac just upset a top jr.middle, which is anything but true.

It's a good day to be a boxing fan.

interesting read - you could have even mentioned the HW division that just shook free of DKP about 1.5 years ago (but then, everyone is dissing the division which i think is shite but that's the truth).

It's no secret that when Don has a title he will use the revolving door of his own stable to find opponents for the champ. He will very rarely seek outside of his stable to make fights happen. He does so as a tool to get outsiders to sign with him. It is almost the only way to get title shots. If you are on the outside you are outta luck basically.

What is even more disgusting however is how GBP played up to this reality by staging endless reruns of hasbeens beating up on neverweres, regurgitating these same faces back to the public while shamelessly ignoring and rejecting the true elites at the weight classes mentioned.

The only thing that broke this cycle, particularly at 147 was the Sycuan boxer Carlos Baldomir upsetting Zab Judah. Which if you really look beyond the deceit was far from an illusion. Zab was always an ordinary welter.
