It's no secret that Vitali Klitschko's primary objective was to become champion during the same time his brother was champion and so set a record. Now that: -Vitali achieved this objective of holding belts together -Vitali made known that he will let Wladimir fight Valuev -Vitali on more than one occasion made known to aspire a political career -Vitali made known his (left)hand needs to heal again after the Peter-fight, one has to wonder: How active do people think Vitali will be in his current reign? -Do you think he will fight more than once a year (and clean up the division)? -Do you think he will fight once a year (and face just his mandatory, which sofar he never has done)? -Do you even think he will fight again at all (and just stall the division like he did with the Rahman mandatory defense....so in the meantime Wladimir can fight Valuev)? The waiting game has begun... I think this was a one-time deal to achieve that dream and don't expect Vitali to be active at all (somehow it seems more likely that a lot of excuses will be made in the future to stall the development and a lot of easy/unrisky opponents will be suggested by his camp)....prepare for a vacant WBC title again sooner than you think (or at most a meaningless optional defense like the Danny Williams farce).
Vitali has soon to make up his mind about continuing or retiring. There's nothing worse for the division than him holding the belt hostage again. It's simple: either defend the belt and further upgrade his (still not great) record or give it up for his brother or other hungry fighters to take. If he decides to defend his belt he should fight at least two times a year. The first mandatory challenger is ready: JC Gomez wants to fight, Vitali should be ready too since he didn't take much punishment in his comeback fight (what an understatement...) so why not make the fight happen in Germany in the beginning of 2009? Another thing: if (or better: when) Vitali gets injured again the WBC should immediately make him relinquish the belt (maybe giving him an 'emeritus' status again to get another immediate shot at the title when he gets healthy again).
He better be active. I think 3 fights next year is possible because he rarely gets hit and fights at a relaxed pace.
His injuries are behind him. Similar to what happened to Vernon Forrest Vitali required some time after surgery to heal 100%. I believe he will fight 2 more times: either Gomez first then Valuev or Valuev and then Gomez. it all depends on if the WBC will let him try and unify.
As long as it takes to lock up all of the titles between he and Wlad. If Wlad loses, then it will be a different story.
Considering the beating he took from Peter I would guess he could be ready to KO JCG tomorrow and then set his sights on Valuev. What a sight it would be to watch Valuev hit the canvas (get richter scale ready) however I predict Vitali by easy UD over Valuev by next June barring injuries to either fighter. Once the HW title is owned by one name "Klitschko", maybe one more title defense against some loud mouth trash talker before he retires.
I think he said Wlad may be more avialable to fight Valuev, but he (Vitali) has also apparently asked the WBC if he could have more time to fight Gomez, so he could slip a Valuev fight in there, first. So we are not sure which one will fight Valeuv. I think, and hope, it'll be Vitali.
Won't happen until all Heavyweight belts are in the Klitschko family. He will fight at least 2 more fights.
