THE WAR ZONE II: Revisiting Classics, Revisited (It's Just Like Déjà Vu All Over Again!)

That's right, six years later, I am reviving/rebooting the series.

I'll probably make the first one around, if not smack dab on, the 6-year anniversary of the first installment of the original WZ - so, Independence Day weekend (USA).

Between now and then I'll leave a poll up and let folks have input on which is going to be the inaugural edition of the sequel. A few of these nominations were actually originally planned for WZ1 and got left on the shelf, a few I'm just thinking up now. Some or all of these may end up making the WZ2 list when all is said and done, but the maiden voyage at least will be selected by you, the "fans".

I know, some people's immediate reaction might be "wtf are Mayweather and Hill of all people doing on a list of War Zone nominations?!?!" - but, trust me. These particular match-ups belong, not the usual boring fare associated with either man, and both fights that have been all but completely forgotten about since they happened.

I tried for, like the original WZ, a good deal of diversity - in eras, weight classes, and global representation - as well as ferreting out fights that are 1) entertaining, b) on YT or DailyMotion, somewhere free to watch online, and c) never get talked about or thought of, except by the occasional super-fan of a fighter involved or somebody with a scholarly interests hyper-specialized on a given era/division.

 

Well, this may well end up winning by default if you remain the only voter.

Well as much as I'd love to be able to dole out heaping scoops of 'benefit of the doubt', you can see what I'm ordinarily dealing with around here:

Going to kick this can into Classic for a week or two before the poll closes..increase the chances of exposure in lower-traffic environs, and diversify the voting body a bit..
