I didn't even care who won. Honestly, I don't really have a favorite fighter except for maybe Pacquaio cuz he's a real ganster. Other than that, I don't give a **** who wins. But this is the type of **** that ruins the sport. You got a man who took a risk and showed some balls by taking SIGNIFICANTLY less money to be the underdog in a fight only to knock the other mother ****er on his ass and do enough to win the fight, AND HE was the champ. And you're tryin to tell me they didn't rob his family???? If I was him, I would probably quit boxing. I would just say **** it.
Obviously kovalev didn't feel the same way you do, otherwise I don't think he would have signed for the fight.
So when you talk about a robbery you meant the purse not the scoring? Okay. Maybe Krusher needs better negotiators? Blame his team not Ward's for getting their man the best of the deal.
For godsake please complain like this if he doesn't get the rematch he deserves otherwise just be patient and wait for Kovalev to stop Ward in the second fight like most of Kovalev fan boys said he would in the first.
Duva has this guy signed exclusively to HBO which killed his chances of forcing Stevenson in the ring and HBO still doesn't pay him more than Ward. Not to mention main events also allowed him to be involved in a fight where all the judges were from the same nationality as his opponent, that's unheard of. I'll tell you why they did this, because they fought he will spark Ward easy and it backfired big time. Credit to Kovalev for making the fight anyway and Ward for also taking the fight a lot of Kovalev fan boys predicted he wouldn't.
Yooo . 4 acquaintances of mine told me they completely done with boxing . Something was said that after Saturday night , boxing has officially met its death and there was no coming back . Woww . People are really feeling some kind of way about this . I can understand where people are coming from.. Boxing needed Kovalev to win this fight . People are still very disappointed with the past couple of boxing events due to a certain style of fighting . Lets keep it all the way real . Nobody wants Andre Ward as the face of boxing . Nobody wants him as the new P4P king . Love him or hate him , he's not an attraction when it comes to the boxing fans and the fans just don't seem to care for him at all . I can understand the fans perspective . I get it . Ward as the P4P king will hurt boxing more than help it . its the truth . The average fan don't want to see Ward fight because he turns them off . Unfortunately, its safe to say boxing lost even more fans once again due to that very unpopular result .
Because when guys step up ridiculous upsets sometimes happen that can define a career. You don't have to look far to find examples either. Cotto vs Martinez, Fury vs Klitschko, Brewster vs Klitschko, Bradley vs Pacquiao, Toney vs Nunn, Barkley vs Hearns, Hopkins vs Trinidad, Rahman vs Lewis, Holyfield vs Tyson, Foreman vs Moorer, Douglas vs Tyson. Every fighter is in some sense a gambler. Every time they enter the ring they are gambling with their talent. If you want to make it big then you need to have some balls and take some big risks.
Ward is the more well know name in America. He has also accomplished far far more that Kovalev has in terms of the opposition he has faced. Please dont mention Grandpa hopkins because hes not a shell of what he used to be and beleive me when i say this if Ward outpointed Kovalev then Hopkins in his prime would have taken Kovalev on a merry go dance.
Is this an attempt to validate ducking in boxing? Seriously? You cannot use this razor close fight or decision as an excuse for fighters retroactively ducking other fighters. Nor can you use it as a future excuse Losing a fight the way Kovalev did is not a death sentence. Ive heard many boxing fans preach that a loss shouldnt be the end or feared by a fighter.
I think the point TJ Max is trying to make is something like this: Look at it from Kovalev's perspective: 1. he was the champion 2. yet he still made concessions to get the fight done (smaller purse, in U.S. with U.S. officials) 3. he was very unlucky with the decision on fight night 4. he lost his belts 5. his earning power may be diminished as a result The question posed is: will this discourage other top fighters from taking risks and making concessions to get big 50/50 fights?
