Your getting me all wrong Boo. I am not saying Pavlik is a bad fighter, in fact I have him as top 10 p4p. While, he is also in my top 10 fav current fighters, maybe even top 5. It's just I think the hype he get and the manner in which he is held is over the top. The hype Pavlik gets reminds me for the hype Diaz was getting 9/12 months ago, remember how Diaz was going to be total king of the division for years, no one was going to beat him, he was a "demigod" (Nate Campbells words not mine) etc. Then what happen? He lost to "old man" Nate. As for your questions. I will admit that I am not 100% on the weights but here goes. Lightest weight as a pro. Light Middle. Heaviest weight as a pro. 166 vs Taylor. With the B-Hop going to be the heaviest in oct. As an am he was a welterweight and won all number of different national/us titles. Miranda - Pavliks fight plan for this fight was to keep Miranda on the back foot, and come at him at a fast pace, because as team Pavlik rightly thought Miranda is poor when the fight is taken to him and he has to fight off the back foot. Taylor KO - The Taylor KO in my eyes was not a one punch KO. It was more of a KO by a number of different punches. To begin with he hurts Taylor by stinging him with a number of strong jabs and backs him into the ropes/corner, he then gets in a number of uppercuts and a flurry of other punches which finally take Taylor beyond the point of return. That by the way was my fav KO of 2007 . McKart - Pavlik was able to stop McKart by flooring him in the 6th and opening up a bad cut to the eye, Mckart got up from this and the fight contined, Pavlik then continued to pound Mckart and scored another knock down Mckart got up but the ref stoped the fight, and was right to do so. Zungina - My memory of this fight is a little hazy, I was pissed when watching it, but I will tell you what I remember. Kelly went down in the 1st from a left hook. Zungina got a cut from the clash of heads. Zungina's corner threw the towel in when it became appart Pavlik was simply providing too much. I think that was in the 9th, maybe 10th. Anyways like I was saying Boo, I don't think Pavlik is a bad fighter, it's more that I just feel that he is overhyped and also that Joe would beat him, as long as Joe still had enough speed in the tank if they ever met. Also, yeah, could not agree more his jab is amazing its just a shame he comes in straight lines at you (which is kind of a typical european thing is it not? And also one of the things that makes us euro's so unskilled at boxing?) which for me would be his dowfall against Joe, because if you have seen Joe enough you would know that fighters such as these are his bread and butter :tong. Take it easy. :good
Not a bad response -- better than I thought you would do! There are a few mistakes. Highest weight is 170. The beginning of the end for McKart was a lead right in the 5th. Bronco never recovered from that first knock down. That's when I started paying more attention to KP. McKart, even way past his best, is double tough, and Pav put him on his hands and knees struggling to breathe with a single lead right to the body. At the time I thought; "Who the **** is this kid!" In the first Taylor fight JT was not beyond recovery unitl he got hit with a left hook after he was in the corner. Up to that point he still had a chance to punch his way out similar to the way he did when he was in trouble in the 3rd. Watch it in slo-mo. You'll see the left hook I'm talking about. And bringing up Pavlik's amatuer record does your case no good at all. He was 89-9, and competed at very high levels of the game. You don't accomplish that by throwing 1-2's in a straight line! Calzaghe knows something that his fans simply will not admit. He can't beat Pavlik. Joe spent at least 7 months calling Kelly out, and then ducked him. As soon as Pavlik said; "I want him before he gets one day older" Joe claimed Kelly isn't proven enough to be worthy. Funny thing is, Calzaghe claims he offered Pavlik a fight after the Lacy fight. So, in Joe's world Kelly was worthy when his best win was Zuniga. Now that he has added McKart, Zertuche, Miranda, and Taylor twice to his resume he is unproven and means nothing. Clazaghe is not worthy of your loyalty. I have no idea why so many fans stick with this *****.
Yeah I get what your saying about the Taylor fight but I feel that he was going before the hook, its just the hook totally took his legs. I will have another look, I have not seen it for a while. For some reason I can't remember what your talking about in the 5th, I will try and see the fight again, I am sure your right. When I mentioned Pavliks am record I meant it in a positive way not a negative. Yeah, Joe talks a load of BS, but like I said I don't agree with everything he says. But, peeps have to remember that he used to say years ago he was going to retire at 30, then after that he went onto say that he only had two fights left. So I feel with the money to be made he will/should be around for a while longer (although I am not 100% thats one of the reasons why I started this thread). Also, another reason why he may continue is because a lot of questions will be raised by not fighting Pavlik if he does announce retirement, and rightly so. But if you have followed Joe you would know he is quite proud and likes proving people wrong. But the thing I get with the Pavlik fight is Joe does not want the fight in america, as when he was a kid he got an awful descision and he has ever forgotten it. The reason why I like Joe is because he was the first boxer I really followed I was like 11/12 when he beat Eubank, and I have been following him since, and I also started to watch his past fights and am fights. When he was younger, Joe actually had more punch in him, his early record had an amazing KO ratio its only when his hands started giving way that he had to lower the power. Also, I can watch the Lacy fight over and over, even you have to admit that that was such a schooling handed out. By the way when did Pavlik fight at 170? I cannot remember. Take it easy.
a fighter isnt judged on his pro record or KO ratio, it's defined on who he fought and how well he did.
I don't want to get started on who ducked who and all that, but Joe wanted B-Hop six years before the fight in 2008, which they both agreed on, only for Hopkins to come back the next day and double his demands. If Joe had got that fight then, his record over the past six years would have been much better, because even if he lost he would have lost some of that high risk, low reward catagory he was placed in. Also, what I meant, is if he did not have such bad hands, his punching would be much more powerful than what it is now.
I fully expect Calzaghe to retire after his next fight as he already said he will whether he wins or loses. If he decides to stay for one more fight then it's most definitely Pavlik next(if he beats Hopkins) as it's the fight everyone wants to see, though it will ruin a possible fight with Abraham for Pavlik which I prefer far more than a fight with Calzaghe but IF Calzaghe decides to stay then it's a guarantee fight with Pavlik next. I would prefer a fight with Dawson and let Pavlik fight Abraham at Middleweight but I don't think that will happen, especially if Pavlik beats Hopkins in impressive fashion and since he's already making his move to Light Heavyweight that's a great sign he eyes Calzaghe next.
but the main reason why hopkins declined th4e fight is becasue he could have fought william joppy for more money at less risk... sure, joe is a better fighter than joppy. but if he chooses not to fight in the US then he doesnt have the muscle and financial power to make the fight happen. this was a conscious choice that both warren and joe made.
Yeah, Joe really did have poor management from Warren, Warren should have just simply got him over to the States even if it was against nobodies.
joe never had to fight nobodies. thats what frustrates people. its joe's fault as much as warren's because he subscribed to warren's 'business attitude'. that's why calzaghe tries to talk himself up in media reports. it's a shame because calzaghe is a good fighter - but one who never truly wanted to find out how good he was.
Warren offered Joe a lot of fights and other offers, it was Joe who never wanted to fly out of Wales for them and is only doing so when everyone is as shot as he was waiting for them to be. Hate to sound like a ***** but when it comes to Joe and his decisions I just can't help but say this.
thats exactly right apart from the part that warren actively tried to pull JC to the states. warren doesnt want to risk his cash cows and never has. the offers he makes to legit opponents are outweighed by JC's marketability and warren knows that.
