If Wlad is the WBA "Super" champ and Ruslan Chagaev is the WBA "regular" champ, why then are Luis Ortiz and Lateef Kayode fighting on Thursday for the "interim" title?

Have I missed something or is the WBA just a complete joke now??

Yes it's a complete joke. Having a WBA title is even more meaningless these days.

    It's getting out of hand

It's a good fight though , I think Ortiz via wide decision against lateef, lateef can be active but I think once he feels Ortiz power he will go into a shell

Despicable move from the WBA. Even I, someone that follows the sport closely since forever, was left confused at some point.

The WBA is the Oprah of boxing.

And you get a title belt! And you! And you get a title belt too!
YOU ALL GET TITLE BELTS! :happy

Wlad is the REAL wba champion, real fans know that obviously, but these bull**** titles really confuse the hell out of the casual observers and that's the problem.

Not the first time this kind of tripe has been served up. Put it down to unfathomable organizational greed.

as long as you rate the regular and interim as merely versions of the 'international' (ie for contenders not champions) titles then it makes a kind of sense.

for instance, jurgan braehmer is thus an international level title holder, not a world title holder - which makes sense when you consider how mediocre he is.

Just remember that its the real title that counts, the one and only top WBA strap.

I think all of the belts hold little value aside from being something to advertise on tv, and can be used as leverage to get big money fights.
The actual value of the belt is vastly overrated in today's age.
For instance when Stiverne beat Arreola the first time it meant equally as much as the second time out.
They gave him a green fight coupon to get in the Wlad sweepstakes with the second fight though. He won leverage.
Fight fans give respect for who you beat, not what's won when you win.
That stuff is for casual fans who know little about the fight game.
