and this fight proves it fat old chagev who owns it is ranked 17 by ratings that actually make sense the challenger for this belt was even sadder being ranked #46 :rofl anyone calling this guy a heavyweight champion of the world or calling it a world title fight is doing a disservice to boxing :-(
Lets face it, so many belts, titles weight divisions and orgs have watered down a once great sport. There is something like 78 champions in 17 weight classes including interim champions among the 4 major orgs. This does not include other orgs like the IBO nor does it cobsider champion emeritus. Boxing has become professional wrestling. Shine a little glitter and glitz and the masses think fighters today are great. Dont get me wrong, some certainly are. But nobody today needs to actually beat the best to be called a world champion, and that is sad.
This "belt" is more like a mandatory WBA position. It should never be called champsionship but I guess the WBA makes sanctioning money on this non-sense. If it were called what it really is - a title shot eliminator - maybe they make nothing, not sure.
There are too many "champions" ....boxing would be much bigger if there was only 1 true champion per weight class
People need to stop taking this belt seriously. It's no different than WBC silver title, just a different name for the #1 challenger.
They all make sanctioning fees on every belt whether its a regional, national or "world title". Its a racket. http://www.boxingnews24.com/2012/07/boxings-many-championships-explained/
It's a sad state of affairs, I thought the titles were already watered down when I started watching boxing now it's become an even bigger joke.
Pianeta was a legit top 20, Molina wasn't even top 30. It is disservice to boxing to call both Chagaev and Wilder world champions. Stiverne vs. Arreola Stiverne vs. Wilder Wilder vs. Molina Wilder vs. Arreola Calling those matches title fights is also a great disservice to boxing.
