    To be honest, that kind of sanction actually encourages cheating as 6 months is a typical gap between fights nowadays, at the top of the game and if you don't get caught, you step into the ring with a loaded gun to a knife fight. Just ridiculous.

    In both cases I guess it comes down to business and money. US has private prisons run by corporations so they'll lobby for stiffer sentencing, while in boxing the incentive is to be more lax to prevent lucrative fighters not being side lined for very long which of course means everyone gets a soft sentence as they have to at least be consistent in their leniency or risk law suits challenging sentencing decisions.
