From another boxing site:: From another boxing site: Kornilov expects Lebedev to face the WBSS winner. "Denis is not deprived of the title," Kornilov said. "The World Boxing Association has issued a resolution according to which Denis was given the status of 'champion in recess' in view of the fact that the title will be put at stake in the unification battle between Gassiev and Dorticos. The unification fight must be set up [with Dorticos] as a super-champion, so the WBA will not have both a super champion and a regular champion at the same time. "The final of the super series will be held in May, after which the WBA will announce negotiations between its winner and Denis Lebedev to to reveal the strongest boxer in this weight category."
If a boxer moves to another weight category and doesn't fight a champion there, he should be stripped of the titles he's holding. It sounds fair to me.
Hey personally I don't see why guys want to pay all of those sanctioning fees. When you have a title, you give up like 2-5% of your purse to the sanctioning body, that's how it makes money. 4 titles = four fees. Winning four is nice, but the first thing I would do is give 3 up.
Boxers in lower weight divisions, throughout history, have fought non-title fights above their weight class. Archie Moore, Bob Foster, Julio Cesar Chavez, the list is endless. If a guy wants to be active, I have no problem with that.
Therell be a similar situation orchestrated for Buatsi to fight for the WBA LHW title on the 2nd Joshua card this year. With Bivol moving down to 168 to fight Smith in December. Buatsi will fight for the vacant, probably against Barrera, Hearn even said yesterday the plan is for Buatsi to fight Barrera by the end of the year.
And what exactly were you trying to say..? That those fighters were champions, but weren't stripped? I think they should have been. Usyk can be as active as he wants. But if he's fighting a TBA at heavyweight, he should let other boxers to fight for his cruiserweight title. P.S. Maybe stripped but given a special belt as an opportunity to become the mandatory challenger later.
Sometimes I even think that boxers and promoters should start ignoring boxing associations altogether. Well, at least some of them. To start from the WBA is not a bad idea.
Prefer Usyk fighting Lebedev than fighting something like Dimitrenko, Dinu or Allen level of fighter.
