Those of you who watched Haye v Wlad with your non boxing mates.

How would you explain the meaning of the title to them?

I tell them it has no meaning at all, and then I'd change the subject immediately.

I have been a boxing fan since I first joined Runcorn ABC when I was 9 years old. That was 22 years ago.

I honestly do not understand how the belts work these days. Diamond belt, silver belt super belt, ordinary belt - for the same sanctioning body in the same division. WHAT THE ****!

Is there anywhere, or anyone who can explain the belt situation?

I was a bit confused when I knew Amir Khan defended his WBA title against Maidana and then saw Maidana vs Morales was for the WBA silver title if i remember correctly.

Amir isnt a real champion, a marketed champion and nothing more.

    Heavyweight - Wladimir Klitshcko

Cruierweight - Vacant (someone needs to unify at least 3 belts)

Light-Heavyweight - Vacant (someone needs to unify at least 3 belts)

Super-Middlweight - Vacant (needs to be unified)

    Middlweight -S. G. Martinez

Light-Middle -Vacant (needs to be unified)

    Welterweight - F. Mayweather

Light-Welter - Vacant (needs to be unified)

    Lightweight - J.M. Marquez

    Super Feather - Vacant

    Feather - Vacant

Now can you see the problem with boxing only 4 legit champions out 11 weight divisions, i havent even bothered with the lower weights.

I think the main reason the WBA made this current 'super' heavyweight belt was because Chagaev won their eliminator match but Haye refused to fight him, Chagaev was threatening to sue so the WBA came up with this scheme to let Chagaev fight for the WBA 'World title'. Of course they also get double their money now as well in sanctioning fee's. Farcical really, don't be surprised to see Vince McMahon show up during Povetkin vs Chagaev.

He officially retired, and didn't box for about a year and a half. Generally even purists who stick to lineal titles consider that a vacating.

Fair enough, thats a fair way to look at it. He's got a stronger claim that anyone else and if he's "active" he's lineal IMHO. Dempsey didn't fight for 3 years and was still champ (didn't retire admitedly)...;O)

You realize the last 4 or 5 posts have probably ****ed the rest of this thread up now?;)

Generally, as I mostly read The Ring and find their ratings the most credible, I look at their champions as the legit one. Though I and alot of others thought, after Mayweather retired, Cotto vs Margarito was as good a fight as could be made at welterweight and should have been for more universal recognition as champion, and since Mosley beat Marg and Mayweather beat Mosley I suppose he's got his claim back in a round about way. It's a shame everytime someone tries to unify some belts most of them get stripped either before the fight or immeidiately afterwards for refusing to fight a mandatory, we might get a champion everyone can agree on that way.

Oh yes Chagaev beat current WBF Champion, Kali Maheen, on points to deserve this opportunity.

Have you looked at Kali Meehan's record since his KO1 defeat to Danny Williams?
