What's the point of an eliminator then? I couldn't give a **** about the strap. I just have no interest in seeing Zbik in there with Martinez.
Yeah, a lot of the time its only as complicated as you want to make it. Middleweight is the same, Martinez is champ. "Simples" (as I've seen the cool kids say!).
they are pointless if neither fighter has done anything to earn them or stands a chance against the champ
To be fair it's hardly Zbik's fault. At the end of the day he's been handed these rankings and bar losing there's **** all he can do about it. Martinez is on a roll at the minute and people are wanting him in big fights. It's probably the modern equivalent of Hagler vs Cave Man Lee. A pretty bad mismatch on paper that lasts as long as Zbik's chin allows. As for Rob's question - the division is pretty barren at the minute, there's a lot of sorting out needed amongst the contenders/pretenders on both sides of the pond. I'd rather Martinez fight lightmiddles or supermiddles in the meantime than fighters like Zbik, who simply isn't world class.
Any of your top 10 at middleweight would be more interesting. Just watch Zbik fight, he's incredibly 'German' and he's not even particularly good at it.
Not according to you he isn't... C. Sergio Martinez 2. Felix Sturm (WBA) 3. Daniel Geale (IBF) 4. Dimitry Pirog (WBO) 5. Sebastian Sylvester 6. Gennady Golovkin 7. Hassan NDam N'Jikam 8. Marco Antonio Rubio 9. Matthew Macklin 10. Andy Lee 11. Sebastian Zbik (WBC)
And you are making it seem like there was grounds to legitimatly strip Martinez and give it to Zbik. It's not like Zbik has been putting in this stellar body of work over the years, and has been ducked by people holding titles. Zbik isn't on the same planet as Martinez, even for the WBC to make him the mandatory is ridiculous. It was a joke fight.
Zbik is the pits from the little I've seen of him. Chavez Jr, of all people, is gonna' outwork him with ease.
Well actually, Sergio Martinez vs Serhiy Dzinziruk was only for the "Diamond" belt, but I sure has hell would have paid to go see that. It's about the fighters taking part, not the trinket on the line.
