The WBC are absolute mugs

Yes I meant that if you think "oh, that fights for the interim world championship, I sure had better go to that" It's really stupid because you're getting third string guys within one sactioning bodies ratings, not a real title fight. A good fights a good fight whether it's for nothing or it's got all the alphabet belts in the world attached to it.

 

Ah right, agree with ya on all that.

That's where all these belts and interms came from, promoters want something that says "World" on the bill to make a fight seem bigger and trick some casual fans to go. So some guys were happy to create bogus organizations to provide belts.

Now the WBA and WBC have gotten into the game with their interm and silver belts. The who thing has ruined boxing in casual fans eyes, everybody is slowly destroying the business to get a short term gain.

 

I think most boxing fans agrees on this. I would rather see Pac vs Marquez at 140 for nothing than at 147 for every belt imagineable.

 

Martinez decision to fight at 160 instead of 154 was always baffling.

Pavlik and Williams were always going to be big money fights. Plus I think he was probably starting to struggle to make 154.

 

After he bit Pavlik there was nothing left. Williams could have been at 154 to.

The first Williams fight was pretty much at Middleweight so it wasn't like he jumped up to fight Pavlik. Why would they have had the second Williams fight at 154 when Martinez was WBC and RING champion at Middleweight, doesn't make sense.

I dunno, apparently he wasn't far off failing the WBC check weigh-in for his last two fights at 160.

At the end of the day he's good enough to fight at any weight from 154 (assuming he can make it) and 175 for me. Sometimes size and weight are overstated, especially when considering fighters with the speed and skills that he has.

he has come out and said he is always big and loses a fair bit of weight in the last few weeks. he mentioned going back to 154 last week.

i really cant see him being effective above 160. mind you i said that about pacquiao after the Marquex fight.

 

Still, more prestigious division, RING title and he's very comfortable at the weight. Don't see the problem.

 

168 is borderline but 175 is a complete no go for Marteniz IMHO.

I'm still not sold on Martinez being this all-conquering super fighter everyone is making him out to be. 160 will be his ceiling IMO, and he looks the perfect fighter to defend his place at the top of the ladder.
