Reigning world champion Edwin Valero (27-0, 27 KOs) has been designated as a champion in recess, due to a severe cut on his forehead which will keep him out of the ring for some time, as well as Valeros desire to test the waters in the super lightweight division. WBC President Jose Sulaiman said today, The WBC is hereby naming Edwin Valero champion in recess for him to be allowed the necessary time to recover from the injury, and to make his decision regarding the division where he will continue his career. In the meantime, to not freeze the title, the WBC will determine an opponent for Humberto Soto, who will fight for the 135lb green belt after a vote by the WBC Board of Governors is held. Any chance of Katsidis fighting Soto for this one? [/FONT]
Bad move for Valero IMO.....he should stay at 135 and clean up a bit more while he refines his skills
GBP wont be involved...Soto is a Top Rank fighter. I expect another Top Rank fighter to possibly fight for the vacant title...they have a few guys under their wings...David Diaz...Urbano Antillon...Anthony Peterson...Brandon Rios etc.
Thing is...who does he fight at 135? Goldenboy have got most of the name lightweights. And Arum hates GBP with a passion right now and probably doesn't want a bar of them. Add to that the liability of having to stage whatever fight he has in Texas or another country...it makes things even harder. Maybe that's why he plans to get to 140 and fight Bradley this year. Arum might see that as the only viable option for him.
Top Rank still have some very good fighters at around Lightweight.....i just think Arum wants Valero to rise in weight & try make a ca$h cow for a potential Pacquiao fight quick smart. There were many rumours when Valero signed the contract with Top Rank that it included a verbal agreement regarding a Pacquiao fight down the line.
I think its a terrific fight...Valero vs Bradley im honestly not too sure how it goes & surprised Top Rank have so willingly called out Bradley. Brad Goodman & the matchmaking team at Top Rank which IMO are the best in the world for building young fighters dont often get things wrong so maybe they have seen something.....
Humberto Soto aint mate. He is signed to Fernando Beltran who is the partner of Top Rank. He last appeared in the joint Top rank split feed card with Kelly Pavlik.:good Go have a look
