I was tempted to nip Harrisson in at #5 on my list, but he got pushed out by McGowan, a superb boxer hindered by bad luck.
But you're not because Barry was born in the Republic so there :nut I'd actually have Dave Boy higher if I was you. 23 fights in total and 11 of those were for titles (9 World 2 Brit??) That, for me anyway, is a top line operator. No shame in losing to Bassa, although the first one when he was ahead on the cards must have been a sickner, and having seen tapes of the Blanco fight I thought he won by a couple of points. Like him as a commentator on RTE now as well. Even if it's just because having him there means Jimmy Magee can't talk all the time
Passion doesn't make up for ability and skills though. Most Brit fighters are taught to fight with a too tight guard and workrate generally.
Damn you and your logical reasoning.   As far as the McAuley argument goes, I can see your point, but I'm a bit of a sucker for the old-timers, and place McCullough so high due to longevity (too much ****ing longevity tbh)
Here you are trying to derail the thread, and I'm the one whos bitter? You are a sore loser, I've just schooled your Hatton loving ass too many times and you are butthurt. Thats about the long and short of it.
I think Britain has a much better talent level in boxing than football, p4p anyway. It has consistently produced good fighters, considering how much of a back seat it takes to other sports. It has a proud history too. Its arguably produced a top 3 heavyweight of all-time, and quite a few top 30 ATG candidates with a number of others that could be realistically placed top 50. Good stuff. Whereas football despite having an obsession with it there are inherent failings in the system that undermine their chances.
Jack Dempsey was born in Ireland. EDIT: I've just checked and I can't see proof where he fought with gloves.
