You know me, I value opposition over aesthetic quality when assessing attributes :good

He certainly looks less troubled against Rivas :good

    Foster v Tiger

Really impressive domination of the legendary HOF Dick Tiger.

At times Foster didn't seem sure of himself when Tiger got in range, sometimes he traded, sometimes he back pedalled (both of these led to him looking like a big lanky uncoordinated mess imo) but he was at his best when he clinched once Tiger came to him imo.

His jab was brilliant and that right hand that followed soon ensured that Tiger didn't really want to know.

    The finish was excellent.

    Really impressed.

Greg and I have talked about that herky jerky movement Foster did when he felt pressured. Greg calls it 'flicking a cat with water'. Foster reacts to punchers similarly to Wlad in a kind of '****, ****, ****, **** **** **** woah...phew' way IMO.

Tiger was a top LHW at that point, despite being undersized (not at LHW: against Foster) and a bit past his best he was ****ing nails. Putting it right up Bob as well until caught.

    Horrific K.O.

Yeah I think these guys that are clearly too big to trade or back pedal inclose (apart from Riddick Bowe who is quite comfortable in the pocket) need to just throw the clinch on when someone gets inclose.

It's horrible to watch but technically they drain the other guys stamina, discourage and frustrate them, plus providing they're strong enought ehy pretty much completely neutralise the other guys gameplan.

In the final round Foster very much stuck behind his jab, threw power shots, tied up when Tiger got near him and he looked really good doing so.

His hands were very quick as well which meant the one time Tiger comes in with an opening he decapitated him.

Foster could time a bomb like few others. Catching a man with a sweet shot has rarely looked scarier than when Foster struck IMO.

    Agreed.

He never actually lost a fight (I haven't seem his draw with ahumada yet) as a lhw and by my reckoning only frazier and ali beat a prime bob foster.

Would be very interesting seeing him against roy jones.

    Frazier vs Ellis 1

    Brutal beatdown.

What really impressed me was the sharpness of the bob and weave also. Ellis doesn't land many punches at all and this style means the punches miss by millimetres but the forward motion is unimpeded allowing Frazier to land hellacious power shots in return.

The left hook of his should be deemed illegal. So accurate, manages to get everything into it the way he throws his shots.

    Poor ellis.

Infact poor everyone he had to face up until the Ali fight. despite being gold medallist he doesn't have the same fanfare Ali had. Instead after beating a man 7 times as big as him he gets labelled as "not a real champ" due to Ali's exile and the corrupt NBA tourney. Called an uncle Tom.

No wonder the guy had a chip on his shoulder and boy did he show it.

Just marched through everyone up until he came up against big george foreman.

Bad fight for Roy IMO. Stuck on the outside behindthat jab? Being timed by Foster as he tries to get in and out? For 12 rounds it's bad enough.

Bad fight for Roy IMO, and there aren't many.

One thing to consider is that Roy resume at light-heavy is very poor...despite his dominance.

    Fullmer v Basilio 2

Fullmer boxes really well in this fight and does a very good job of beating basilio up from the outside.

At times he threw a lazy jab and got timed or he let himelf get backed up against the ropes, but by and large it was quite a well fought and disciplined gameplan. the stoppage was bs, whihc is a shame because it seemed like fullmer had weakened basilio enough that the flush shots would begin landind with more frequency (like the end of the first fight).

As far as outfighting goes, he was no wilfred benitex but he's up there with old bones definitely :good

It will be a very tricky fight, he basically has to feint his way past the jab, land a combo and get out again, but the problem is Foster is very rangy, not scared of throwing shots in close, is very quick and hits like a mule kicks.

At time Tiger was able to catch Foster with a straight Right and that's probably his best shot, hoping he can force Foster off balance backwards before landing a left hook.

    It's a huge ask.

I don't think Foster's chin is a question at all. Jones would have lost to Frazier in the exact same fashion imo. Most LHW's would.

I said earlier today there's noone I'd pick to beat Jones, Foster is damn close to being that man.

So I've just watched Khaosai Galxy vs Rafael Orono.

This guy had been troubling me lately because I had thought quite highly of him but read comments about people saying he was never that good and his resume was failry uninspiring.

Anyways I just watched this fight to get a glimpse of him at his best hoping to prove the doubters wrong.

I was left a bit meh.

I'm not saying he's like cuevas in that he's really poor but can spark people, but he did look quite poor, being caught with shots when he came close. His accuracy seems pretty bad also. He's not really a quick handed fighter neither.

His power and forward motion is impressive and his chin is solid as well.

Even in this victory thought, just before the end, orono threw a punch that by rights should have taken Galaxy's head off but he walked through it and I think Orono quit at that point.

I'm a little bit too young to remember myself the days of his prime, but am I write in saying he captured the imagination because he was small, foreign, built like a brick **** house, could whack and could take a punch?

I think looking over his resume he never was the best in the division and the WBC (should have been WBA also) lineage was quite strong throughout.

Who're the small guy specialists here? lora and flea I think.

Any of you guys able to shed some light on why this guy captured the imagination and somehow found himself with a really high ring ranking?

I mean number 1 SFLW and top 10 p4p seems preposterous based on his skillset and resume.

I've watched loads of fights this past few days though so my mind is kinda fuzzy and I might be missing something obvious.
