If you cans how me a fight of his against a top level opponent (atleast a rated contender) where he looks any better than he did against araujo I'm all for it.

Of all the fighter's to have guys defending their legacy, I never thought it would be carter with you defending it

the guy achieved great things, I just don't think he looks that good on film (no homo)

don't got no beef. I just don't think he looked great in the footage and certainly not great enough to beat whoever it was I was originally debating with whatarock about (can't remember the guy now, think it was floyd or whittaker)

    carbajal v Gonzalez 3

    Carbajal vs Gonzalez 3

    1: 10-9
    2: 9-10
    3: 9-10
    4: 10-9
    5: 9-10
    6: 9-10
    7: 10-9
    8: 9-10
    9: 9-10
    10: 9-10
    12: 10-9
    12: 9-10

I couldn't watch this fight all at once as i've been darting around the house doing stuff so I'm not overly confident with this scorecard.

I think Gonzalez won it quite clearly but it's a matter of what you like.

Carbajal threw a lot of leather but barring 1 or 2 rounds and the final 2 rounds, he missed by miles. Gonzalez controlled range beautifully in thsi fight, he never rushed matters, he waited cautiously on the outside and then slicked his way inside landing a couple of shots before slicking his way back out again.

He clearly had huge respect for Carbajal's power but it didn't make for the best of fights from a spectator viewpoint (aside from the last 2 rounds).

The tatcical awareness of Chiquita was really impressive though. I thought he was going to lose his way when carbajal caught him and cut him, but the next round he came out and controlled from the outside again. The 6,7,8 were quite close but I think Gonzalez's work was much more effective.

He went to war in the final rounds but I think he ahd it sown up by then.

Gonzalez v Chang peak for peak would be a technical treat I'd imagine.

Considering the level of opposition though, I was very impressed by Gonzalez here.

You've seen their actual fight? Chiquita was too fresh and more than strong enough to hold his own. Still, Chang put in a spirited performance and got close to Gonzalez frequently, just didn't have the speed or reflexes to do the better work once he'd got there.

No I couldn't get a hold of it, but it was after his rteirement right?

He wasn't what i'd call prime, which is why I think it's something worth discussing atleast.

How do you think they'd do prime for prime?

Carbajal was a flat footed unimaginative toiler by the time he lost the series to Gonzalez.

Chang at his best wins IMO. And Chang moved to fly after that and beat Chitalada clearly IMO, so whilst past his best there was life in him yet. In fact, he was well on his way to beating Kittikasem after that, but got caught by a murderous puncher.

A top level fighter right throughout his career, just not as varied once he came back (his 'retirement' was pretty short IIRC) and with his reflexes diminishing his blend of offence and defence wasn't as consistent, he was more hittable, and just less of a machine. Ohashi has some success against him second time round, which says it all really.

I think Chang had fallen off a lot by the time he came back and the Gonzalez fight was him at his absolute worst imo.He was a bit sharper by the time of the Chitalada and Kittkassem fights, but for a fighter who depended a lot on his physical abilities\natural athleticism, it just wasn't really there anymore.

He had Chiquita where he wanted him, just couldn't get off. Gonzalez was landing the better shots even when being smothered against the ropes. Chang still won rounds though, and that's my point.

I actually think German Torres II might be his worst.

Yeah, good point.Either\or, for different reasons.

Prime Torres vs Carbajal and Gonzalez would have been good, incidentally.

I'm procuring his fight with Eleoncio Mercedes, who went 9 before getting stopped so it should be interesting.

You rate Torres quite high as a puncher in those weights don't ya? Any good examples of him doing anyone in on film?

And how much footage of Ursua sparking peeps is out there? I'm sold on him based on the Zapata and Castillo knockouts alone, but would like to see more.
