I've seen a matchup between the two, but not the other one.

Regardless of whether or not this is the one I've seen, I'll gladly watch it again. Two terrific fighters.

Good fight.

After the first 6 rounds I thought this might be a hometown robbery as Park boxed very good against bloodied Oguma who looked like a lesser fighter.

But already in the 7th round Park showed signs of fatigue.

Things only got worse for Park as the fight progressed.

If I didn't know the result of the fight beforehand it wouldn't have surprised me to see Park getting stopped somewhere after the 12 round.

Park dissapointed me.

Oguma showed some serious balls in this fight.

Clear victory for Oguma.


By the way, who the hell told Oguma slugging with Avelar is a good idea?
I'm guessing it was evil midget Canto.:yep

Haven't seen Hagler in a while so I revisited the Sibson & Scypion fights. Both clinics where Hagler moves well but mixes offense well with that movement. He set the jab up beautifully and picked the right punches once his opponent was hurt stalking but picking him off throwing with patience. Educated shots and perfect fights to watch on how a southpaw boxer-puncher should fight.

 

Greg Haugen vs Freddie Roach . Great elbows by Haugen . Roach seemed so much bigger that it's obvious he was a great dehydrator like his current main disciple used 2b .
Both seemed somewhere between mediocre and good . No clean speed nor power from either , both seemed 2 lack especially physically , but not only physically what it takes 2b a really good fighter .
Also Haugen's record is more impressive than Roach's .
Very few jabs in d fight which is usually good , but more than a few elbows from Haugen which made me think : despite Haugen clearly cheated in this fight , a fighter who uses raised elbows 2 block n incoming face 1st aggressor does not cheat , but 1 who misses his hooks and turns them in2 elbows cheats indeed .

Sanchez was d superior h2h fighter and possibly p4p , but this fight did not show it , their fights against mutual opponents had .
Sanchez was d bigger man and it was said that he had difficulty making d weight . No doubt that had he lived on he would have moved 2 130 , most probably become a champion there as well although i read here that he was in talks or even had advanced negotiations with Arguello @ 135 . I think that Arguello @ 135 was still a bit 2 soon 4 him , but courage and taking on all comers was 1 of his attributes as a champion .

 

Sanchez won this fight clearly. You have 9 even rounds. What constitutes a winning round? Ruptured spleen? swallowed tongue? soiled britches?

Every rd that Sanchez landed , LaPorte landed in it as well , in a few occasions even snapped Sanchez' head 2d side . Since i saw Sanchez landing but LaPorte hitting him back , actually this time i even tried 2 score even rds unevenly . I could c Sanchez winning d fight by a 1 pt margin as well . But not so clearly , unless u let Howard Cossell effect u , and i didn't . LaPorte swelled more , but that's due 2 LaPorte as d shorter man landing more on Sanchez' lower part of d head , while Sanchez , visibly d taller man landing more on LaPorte's upper head . Not calling d fight a particularly bad decision , but i don't like scoring even rds unevenly despite i did it this time .

watched Prince Charles Williams vs Richard Caramanolis on youtube. great fight. Williams was in control most of the time and finished it in the 11th after Richard's corner threw in the towel. Williams had a great jab and uppercut and was overall well-rounded.

 

There were talks of a Virgil Hill, Michael Moorer, and Charles Williams tournament at 175 but it obviously never happened

 

That's the thing with Marvin though isn't it? Everyone uses the slowed reflexes version of the Hearns/Mugabi/Leonard and not the guy that had those real good legs. He had a very nice set of wheels and really did a masterful job with his angles back then. And he threw darts in there and not the wide hooks. Hagler from the waist down back then was a very very impressive fighter. When those legs went, he was no longer at that optimal position where he kept guys at the end of his punches. In that timeframe, he seemed to land everything at about 90% arm extension and he'd move poeple and those follow up punches of his did not ever seem to hit air or force him off balance.
