Just had the pleasure of watching Ali-Norton I and II for the first time.

I scored the first to Norton (115-113). It was clear to me that Ali was not in the greatest shape of his life, he tired quite early on. This is the first time I have seen Norton, I knew he had the body of an adonis but didn't know exactly how rangy he was. Ali had trouble fending off Norton's jab in the first contest. Ken's bodywork was brutal too, particularly that left hook to the body.

The second fight I had for Ali (115-114...I had round 4 even). Early on Norton didn't work the body so much, his jab wasn't as effective, but then Ali was circling the ring more, not allowing Norton to get set or stay in range too long. The last six rounds, when Norton upped the ante, were very exciting. Norton's uppercut - on the inside when he got Ali to the ropes - worked wonders. Ali sealed it with an impressive burst in the final round, beating Norton to the punch.

Will watch the final part of their trilogy soon.

 

That Norton was in some shape, wasn't he? That guy was like a lightweight and just kept throwing and really didn't drop his hands late in a fight like so many other heavies. Activity level stayed the same. About the only negative thing he really did was to loop that right hand a little more when he got tired. But not much more and it still was an effective punch in there.


Before watching their final bout, go and watch Foreman-Norton. The 2nd bout w/ Muhammad got Kenny his title shot. So he was in his prime and coming off those 2 Ali fights. And watch the Foreman footwork and watch him position his opponent in there.

 

He was pretty relentless, particularly so in the second fight I thought. Not many would enjoy being cornered to the ropes by him.

Just watched the second Mando Ramos - Pedro Carrasco bout, and thought it was an interesting, fairly entertaining scrap.

Unfortunately, the youtube version I saw included only about the first minute of the final round, but by then, my scorecard was already pretty much decided. I was shocked to see on Boxrec (as the fight I saw was cut short, and I had to resort to that) that Ramos escaped with a split decision. I had the fight even after eight, but except for a few instances here and there I thought Carrasco jabbed his face off, and won rather handily. Ramos almost had him down in the 13th from a short, straight right hand, but he couldn't follow up, and Carrasco recovered quickly.

I can see why they had the rubber match just a few months later......this was a bad decision, I thought. I'd like to see wat some others thought of it. Maybe I just haven't had enough coffee this morning and missed a bunch of stuff, but that was an eyebrow-raiser.

 

Ramos was a real party animal and suffered a few times performance wise because of it.

 

Indeed. He was a lot like Chacon in a lot of ways, I think. Flawed in all the right ways. He just didn't have Chacon's power.

 

Kostya Tszyu vs Culi(t)o Cesar Chavez

Shame on Tszyu 4 38 yo Chavez actually looked competitive and dangerous in there 4 a while , albeit dirty as well .

Chavez used some Hopkins tactics but Tszyu once used n Aikido move on him and eventually battered Chavez until a somewhat premature stoppage saved Chavez' s .

Khaosai Galaxy vs. Armando Castro

The last defense of Galaxy.

There's a common misconception that Khaosai was immensely strong/always come forward/impossible to move type of fighter in the mold of Tua or Foreman.

He wasn't.
Moon fits this description much better.

Very tough grueling fight for Khaosai.

Khaosai is hurt and dropped at the end of the second round.

Very game hard-punching (Khaosai named him the hardest puncher he ever met) Castro put constant relentless pressure on Khaosai and actually outfought and outmuscled him on the inside.

Khaosai spent almost entire fight fighting off the back foot.:admin
Beautiful boxing and excellent movement - Willie Pep-like stuff!

Khaosai showed his usual excellent physical condition and truly a championship heart as after three or four rounds it looked like declining Khaosai may surrender his title to the swarming challenger.

But unlike Watanabe Khaosai never surrenders

In the 11th round Khaosai finally knocked down Castro with a fast Pacquiao-like (I **** you not!) 3-punch combination.

Khaosai successfully defended his title for the last time and rode into immortality.
