    Virgil Hill KO4 Leslie Stewart.

Quicksilver was already considered to be much more of a boxer than a puncher at this point and Stewart had borne up pretty well in splitting two fights with the hard punching Marvin Johnson. It stood to reason that Virgil would circle and jab, and that Stewart would try to track him down; and everything went according to plan over the first three. Hill jabbed and jabbed some more and took the first and third as a result. I thought Stewart did enough work in the second to shade it in my card, but even then, he didn't look particularly comfortable in there and appeared awfully frustrated by the start of the fourth.

Still, I remember it came as a massive shock when Hill drew Stewart into a check hook from the ninth layer of Hell, producing one of my very favorite delayed reaction knockdowns of all time. And Hill certainly closed the show in style,(he was a pretty good finisher when he had someone hurt) landing another hook that had Stewart flopping onto the canvas for a second and final time.

One of the better finishes of the 80's, imo.

Oddly without looking at this thread this morning I saw Cotto-Mayweather too. Had it 8-4 May way. Floyd looked arguably the worse I've seen him. Both guys were missing but lot of those chopping rights were blocked. I give Cotto his due he made him fight and that jab always would've given Mayweather problems with a disciplined strategy. Both guys did well picking their shots but Mayweather didn't look great at all. Great performance by Cotto and great heart shown by May. He was bloodied which hasnt happened since Augustus I think.

Myung Woo Yuh vs Joey Olivo I had it 8-7 for Olivo. I gave Olivo the 15th to pull it out after a late rally by Yuh. I really enjoyed this fight. I never recall seeing two fighters race around the ring at such speed (Olivo going backward, Yuh forward). But there was plenty of action and exchanges. I think Olivo was a little more accurate.

I didn't think too much of his punching technique or his offensive arsenal either, whereas Barrera and Morales were excellent in both respects.

It left me wondering how he could have beaten a fighter of Wilfredo Gomez's calibre, certainly. Boxing is a funny old game.

Aye it wasn't one of his more inspiring performances i'll give you that, but c'mon with some of the shite Marco, Juan manuel and Erik have given us in lower key fights or when they thought they were fighting a lesser talent, you should be able to cut him some slack.:yep

That's the first Sanchez fight you've watched? Watch his fight with Danny Lopez (first one). Takes a big, steaming dump on any performance by any of the modern Mexican trio.

I recommend him against Castillo. Then you get to see positives and negatives.

Or Azumah Nelson. Or Danny Lopez x2, especially when he was at hittable as you say and Lopez is arguably the hardest puncher in featherweight history.

It's a fair point, Lora. I was just giving my impressions from the fight that I had watched. I'm sure it wasn't representative of Sanchez at his best.

I'll watch the fight, but whether or not I agree with the idea it takes "a big, steaming dump" on any Barrera performance is another thing entirely. Barrera put on some spectacular performances through his extraordinary 20 year career, as did the other two Mexicans.

    Noted.

Absolutely. Sanchez did not look like a world beater in his fight with Perez.

    Sorry Sal.

He's not infallible. Hence why I recommend the Castillo fight :good

He had a fantastic punching arsenal though, and could counter punch and jab with the best of 'em.

As others have said, check out the Lopez fights. You will agree it's better than anything...anyone has ever done.
