Armstrong - Azrimendi 4

The first time I've witnessed footage of Armstrong. Very impressed. Came forward like a bull, and yet took very little in return from his opponent. Head movement, chin tucked in, Armstrong would throw with singles most of the time, but well timed, and landing at a high percentage. Left hooks, right hands, uppercuts - they were all in there. Even with the footage being as old as it is, you could quite clearly see Azrimendi's face was a mess. He was losing virtually every exchange. Classy stuff from Armstrong. He looked great.

Patterson - Rademacher

Interesting. Rademacher was an Olympic Gold Medalist making his professional debut. He was performing admirably in the early goings with a typical ameauter style. Keeping distance, popping out his jab and occasionally following them up with the odd power shot. He was quite clearly a skilled opponent, but he was eventually on the end of Floyd's shots and then the knockdowns ensued. ...Not one, two, or even three, but he was knocked down seven times until he finally stayed down for a 10 count. Floyd's combinations were too much for the Olympic Gold medalist in the end. Rademacher did score a knockdown of his own during the early goings but I wasn't entirely sure Floyd was hurt. Looked more of a balance issue.

 

Rademacher looked like Carl Froch to me, but a bit quicker, with no stamina.

 

Funnily enough, I actually think Rademacher demonstrated better punching technique than Carl Froch. Not as wild. He seemed more controlled. Froch squares up sometimes, and it looks horrible and he's really vulnerable when he does it. Rademacher didn't do that against Patterson.

 

I was just making sure what with some of the stuff you've been uploading. I've got my money on you coming up with Rudkin-Olivares.

Ketchel - Papke

A 10 minute highlight of Ketchel's fight with Papke. I can't really claim to have seen any fighting at all. I saw some clinching, some failed attempts and wild swings by both fighters, but outside of that there really isn't much to report. Has the sport moved on since 1909? Unquestionably.

 

Armstrong - Garcia

Armstrong fighting some Filipino guy at Welterweight. Another very impressive display by Hank. He reminds me a lot of Frazier, but faster, more agile, and with a more active right hand. Garcia seemed quite tough and threw in some uppercuts which is the obvious punch to throw against Armstrong when he's on the offensive, but he was being out-landed in the majority of exchanges. Armstrong was very good at finding room for his punches at close quarters. He must have been absolute hell to fight. You'd think he'd make for an easy target seeing as how offensive-minded he is, but he's constantly moving his head.

 

Are you sure that's not their draw at middleweight. Garcia was the champion.

 

Absolutely sure. The two fought twice, first time at Welterweight in which Armstrong won a decision, and then later on at Middleweight. I watched their first bout. The footage wasn't in it's entirety but it seemed quite clear to me that Armstrong was the better man and probably deserved the verdict as winner.

We can but dream with those two! Goin' on a hunt with BoranBKK in Thailand in the next couple of weeks so hopefully can unearth some 'rare' stuff then.
