Been watching a bit of sumbu today, namely graham 1, mccallum and barkley. the way he circles round the ring, very economical in his movement behind that quick jab, it's how I picture Mike Gibbons to have been in his prime, always just out of range.

Outboxing McCallum so comprehensively is amazing considering the difficulties McCallum gave everyone else bar Jones.

I think I'm now beggining to see what Flea and PP see in him in terms of h2h against all styles. Kinda wish Nunn wouldn't have landed "that" punch so we could see that evolve over 12 rounds.

Is there any footage of a prime Gibbons?

Although Kalambay clearly was fading and old but his victory over prime Collins deserves a look too.

I'm currently watching Pacquiao-Marquez I. Marquez had great timing throughout the fight, especially in round 2.

    Eusebio Pedroza vs Bernard Taylor.

Poor fight to watch, and definitely not the best of performances from the Panamanian champ. Taylor fought to a smart, albeit negative and boring gameplan, using constant lateral movement to negate the slower Pedroza's work, and countering occasionally with points scoring shots, but nothing of much significance. Pedroza threw very little and spent most of the time following the challenger around the ring. Taylor's very quick feet and hands carried him to a big lead in the first half of the fight for me, I had him 9-2 up coming to the 12th, and it wasn't until the championship rounds that Pedroza finally managed to make up some ground. He finally got his vaunted body attack going as Taylor slowed down, and connected with some decent shots to take the final four rounds on my card. Still I had it a fairly clear win for Taylor in the end, 9-6 in rounds.

Ordinarily id view this as a bit of a robbery, but in this case a draw can be kind of justified. Taylor took zero risk and his constant running spoiled the whole fight. That's no way to take a champions belt imo, and his performance, especially considering he was fighting in front of his home crowd, left a lot to be desired. No argument with the draw here.

Very reminiscent of the Froch-Dirrell fight. I take no credit away from the pursuer and scorn the runner mercilessly.

Aye, there was actually a point in the first couple of rounds that the ref even stepped in to tell the two of them off for doing no fighting. How often do you see that in the ring? You can't expect to run like a thief the whole fight and get any favors from the judges.

 Dirrell is actually first name that came into my head when I seen the fight, he's a lot in common with Taylor. Both guys with plenty of natural talent, but not the right attitudes to make it at the highest level. Just goes to show that god given talent will only get you so far.

Tanabe did look goddamn good against Accavallo. He was bossing that fight even up until the stoppage.

I wonder how much my opinion of Accavallo would change if i saw the full takayama, Torres and first Ebihara bouts.

Probably not that much, but he didn't look to be getting the better of any of the H\L's

More likely Torres stock would rise further.

What happened in the Torres one? I thought Accavallo was outboxing him. From what I remember anyway, Torres had his moments.

What do we have of him? Is Ebihara II the only full bout of him winning? I'm mashed and can't remember.

Not in my eyes. Wasn't winning the third either... I'll go out on a limb and say the second decision was bull**** too.

I'd say Griffith was slightly better but Fernandez looked pretty good himself too.

    Until that "KO" happened.:verysad

Fernandez is really one of those forgotten underrated fighters.

Would love to see his fight with another underrated welter L.F. Thompson.
