Interesting stuff shows the talent of Sasakul to box Pacquiao's socks off for 7 rounds even with the disadvantage before the power eventually told in the 8th.

Watched Sasakul-Mijares there and Sasakul was dwarfed in that ring and it showed right from the start as Mijares was technically excellent unlike Manny so took control right away. The way Sasakul was stumbling all over the place at the end of the second should have signalled the end of the fight ref really shouldn't have allowed him back out for the third.

Neither do I, but he was only 129 for his super bantamweight bouts some three years later. I doubt he put on more than ten pounds at flyweight.

Really? He looked twice the size of Ledwaba. And by the time he was at 126 he was a fully fledged lightweight.

    Just watched Mayweather-Hatton.

Round 1: Mayweather, because he landed the cleaner punches. 1-0
    Round 2: Hatton. 1-1
Round 3: After watching the replay where Mayweather landed that right hand, I give him this round. 2-1
    Round 4: Mayweather. 3-1
    Round 5: Hatton. 3-2
Round 6: Mayweather won, even without the point deduction, since, as said before, he landed the cleaner punches. 4-2
Round 7: I guess Mayweather won this round, with the punches he landed near the end. To be honest, I was distracted by Harold and Jim's conversation. 5-2
Round 8: Clear Mayweather round. 6-2
    Round 9: See Round 8. 7-2

Anyone who scored the first round for Hatton DKSAB.

Yep. He was 129 for Julio, which happened a year after Ledwaba.

Still, if he was hitting 120+ he's still much bigger than Sasakul.

My guess is he was in the lower 120's. I don't know whether or not that was much bigger than Sasakul.

I think the visual evidence points towards that he was.

Haven't seen anything on Sasakul, mate. Just commenting on Pacquiao's weight.

Check the fight out mate. Manny looks humongous in comparison.

    Ali-Frazier II

    1. 10-9
    2. 10-9 (20-18 )
    3. 10-9 (30-27)
    4. 10-9 (40-36)
    5. 9-10 (49-46)
    6. 10-9 (59-55)
    7. 9-10 (68-65)
    8. 9-10 (77-75)
    9. 10-9 (87-84)
    10. 9-10 (96-94)
    11. 10-9 (106-103)
12 Went back and forth over scoring it a close 10-9 to Ali or even, which makes the final score either 116-112 or 116-113.

A few thoughts: Ali fought very smart by going out to sweep the early rounds while Frazier started slowly as he so often did, Ali also did a good job of breaking up Joe's pressure, although I don't think the holding was nearly as excessive as some like to say it was. There was one, maybe two rounds late where Ali was tired that I think he was holding on to the point where he should have received a warning about it, but a fighter isn't obliged to give up a useful tactic that's working if the ref isn't talking to him about it.

I also liked Ali's use of a little counter left hook on Joe, (when Frazier started to get inside and plant his foot for a left hook, Ali would do a light left hook at just that moment on many occasions and it did well both for scoring points and disrupting Joe's rhythm) and he did a good job of using his arms and gloves to parry Frazier, particularly in the early going.

Frazier used combinations well at certain points, mixing in little right hands and I swear and 1-2 followed by an uppercut at one point, but he was a little too reliant on the big left hook, and he simply couldn't find Ali with it as often as he did in the first fight. It also took Joe awhile to get going, even for him, in this bout. I never really felt signs of life as it were until Joe ran across the ring to start round 4, and then he didn't do much for the rest of that round either. Still, he made it close in the middle rounds as Ali was tiring and Joe came on. If that had start a round or two earlier, I think the fight would have been genuinely up for grabs at the end.

Ali utilized not just his physical tools but control over momentum masterfully, doing things like trying to make a statement in the opening seconds of a round if Frazier had won the previous round, or, as mentioned earlier, successfully using clinches in one of the classic strategies to reduce the effectiveness of a swarmer or pressure fighter.

Serious, workmanlike effort from Ali, very little clowning, and it carried him well to the victory.

Nice analysis, I'll have to watch that myself, haven't seen it for years.
To be honest, the last time I watched Ali fights (post exile) was back in the early 80's when they used to show them on that Top Rank Classics, I think it was called. Apart from the Frazier 3 fight (a great heavyweight fight) which I watched at the time of Fraziers death and the first Frazier fight I never really enjoyed watching him and always felt a bit disappointed. Don't know if anyone else knows what I mean.

Ralph Dupas - Gil Turner highlights look impressive.

Dupas' movement makes Pep look like Tua.
