    Lies.

I love the guy. He has a lot to prove, but he's my favourite fighter by a heavy yard.

I couldn't wait. I watched about 5 minutes of Roman Gonzalez vs Tevez that McGrain posted. I was VERY impressed and will be checking him out for sure.
A couple things I liked, the way he turns that left hook over and also the right uppercuts to the body. Anybody else agree that's kinda Arguello-esque?

I think he is more Chavez to be honest. Short and fluid and a pressure fighter really. Although his punch delivery to the body is very Arguello-esque. He actually came out of a gym funded by the late Alexis Arguello.

    Lupe Madera vs Katsuo Tokashiki

This quadrilogy is very very good. A real clash of styles, Tokashiki is a sort of Boxer-Puncher he actually looked to keep it long and a slower pace. Madera was more of a Mexican warrior, good mobility and solid hard crisp shots, he liked it at mid range and a higher pace. They clashed really well.

The fights standalone themselves, as good ones. Real back and forth action with both guys having sucess then losing controll. I think generally Madera had more sucess, throughout.

But the fights really make more enjoyment when watched as a whole quadrilogy. It is really interesting seeing as their styles expand too each others, and how controll is won and lost.

Sorry for my half-arsed anaylisis, want to talk about the fights but my minds mince.

    Heres my scorecards

    I
    Madera: 2,4,5,6,11,13,14,15
    Tokashiki:1,3,7,8,9,10,12
    Total: 143-142 Madera (8-7)

Thought Madera was abit unlucky here but no real gripes with the result, my wee brother scored it the same way to Tokashiki. This fight is probably the best. Some really great rounds in here and nice flow of action.

    II

    Madera: 2,3,4,5,7,8,10,13
    Tokashiki:1,6,9,11,14,15
    Total: 143-141 Madera (8-6-1)

Even: Round 12 as Tokashiki won the round but lost a point for using his elbow to push Madera off.

Again no major gripes with the outcome but again thought Madera edged it. Not quite as good as the first but some lovely rounds to watch. Thought Madera started well but faded in the late rounds as he let Tokashiki controll the pace. Again my brother scored it as the judges, as he had it even.

    III

    Madera: 1,2
    Tokashiki: 3
    Total: 29-28 Madera (2-1)

Probably the best action of the fights but lacks the drama, and stylistic playout of the other fights. Both guys go for it in this but Madera's harder shots make it good for him. The cut Madera gets is very brutal and stops the fight after an amazing 4th round, but its not scored.

    IV

I watched the first 5 rounds then my DVD froze so cant watch it, but will watch it when I get home. But it was shaping up good.

Anyone seen this quadrilogy? Thoughts on it?

Any insight into it? That Maot guy has really got some publicity now, came from nowhere with 3 shots.

You seen Madera vs Tokashiki? Thought you might have?

Hagler vs. Briscoe. First time viewing. I've had this and a few other old Hagler fights lying around for a while and only just got round to having a look.

In the early rounds Hagler is pretty much taking Briscoe apart in the Monzon mould, keeping the jab pumping and giving near-constant lateral movement. Hagler proved he could genuinely box off the back foot and didn't have to stop moving to punch. However, he was unable to get full extension and weight on his punches as a result.

Briscoe's pressure is fast from the opening bell, as fast as I'd ever seen from him, and it takes its toll as the fight wears on. Hagler ends up duking it out on the inside and taking more punches than he should, and his legs run out in the later rounds as he spends more and more time taking a working over on the ropes.

I've attacked Briscoe for getting too much mileage out of being smashed by Monzon in the past, but I think he did show some good skills here, even while seemingly well over the hill. Hagler won it clearly but it wasn't a walk-over, almost like a harbinger for the difficulties he would face in the first Antuofermo fight.

Very interesting take on this fight. I'll have to re-watch it. I seem to recall Hagler getting cut? And this possibly affecting his strategy? It's one of my favorite Hagler efforts (albeit workmanlike) because of the mobility he has to show.

    Watched:
    Ruben Olivares Vs Chucho Castillo
Good technical fight which I didn't have terribly close. I had it 146 - 140 Olivares. Olivares displayed that beautiful ring generalship as well as being the busier fighter. Castillo seemed got busier in the last 3 rounds and maybe figured a few things out which would somewhat explain the closer 2nd fight (never seen that one).

    Jiro Watanabe TKO9 Gustavo Ballas.

Noticed Pea already gave a pretty detailed description that I cant really add much to. I was impressed with both guys and it was a real interesting clash of styles. Jiro is such a fine fighter to watch, excellent stand up technician..his straight left it brilliant and the right hook he often followed it with was a punch I never really remembered him for but I will now.

Throughly enjoyed the fight, the stoppage was a little puzzling and it would have been nice to see it go on but a good fight nonetheless.

Interesting tidbit I read about this fight...Ballas supposedly fought the fight in two left shoes, apparently they brought over new ones for the fight from Argentina and when they opened the box fight night they were both lefties. I tried hard to see if I could spot it but I couldnt, not with the youtube resolution.

Ive been inspired to watch some more Ballas now and it appears that his first title defense against Pedroza has been uploaded.

Gonna watch that this arvo..score it and report back.
