Scar, looks like we don't differ tremendously on their first fight. We're a point off; on the 10-point must, looks like you would have had that a draw if my math is correct. Pretty close fight, I have to say.

Ummm, no, I think it reads 95-94 on the 10 point must. Maybe what the old writer said to me really is true about the benefit of the old California system. Less math.

Nope; my math was bad, you're right. We both had it 95-94 Patterson then.

Sal, did you give the rematch a try? It is worth it. One thing about the Patterson-Quarry styles is that they gelled nicely, just like Patterson-Chuvalo.

I need to carve out some time to do that; it is indeed an interesting meshing of styles.

Here's one that doesn't get much attention but is well worth seeing. Alexis Arguello vs Jose Luis Ramirez over 10 rounds. Great fight. Ramirez never fought a better fight. He was so very busy which countered Arguello's bombs throughout. I had it close enough where one couldn't gripe too much, but here we go. 10 point must system.

    Round 1: 10-10 Even
    Round 2: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 3: 10-9 Ramirez
    Round 4: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 5: 10-9 Ramirez
Round 6: 10-8 Ramirez (Ramirez scores a knockdown)
    Round 7: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 8: 10-10 Even
    Round 9: 10-9 Arguello
    Round 10: 10-9 Ramirez

    Total: 96-95 Ramirez

Here's another one might want to check out for a bit of controversy. The first Wilfredo Benitez - Bruce Curry fight. Here we go, not a hard fight to score, but it is scored on NY's rounds basis. And there is the controversy.

    Round 1: Curry
    Round 2: Benitez
    Round 3: Curry
Round 4: Curry (scores 2 knockdowns)
Round 5: Curry (scores a knockdown)
    Round 6: Benitez
    Round 7: Benitez
    Round 8: Even
    Round 9: Benitez
    Round 10: Benitez

    Total: 5-4-1 Benitez.

NY had a supplemental system in use if a judge scored a bout even. If there was a dominant round, one could use extra points, but again, I believe that they could only be employed by the judge if he scored the bout even. The 10 point must system gives one more latitude rather than a simple round basis, which hurts a fighter who had a dominant round. If a 10 point must system was employed, then I would have had Curry the winner with a score of 95-93.

Mayweather-Pacquiao: I didn't watch this fight in 2015 because I knew Mayweather would win & the fight should've happened years earlier when both were in their primes.

Anyway, I only gave Pacquaio rounds 4, 6 and 10, gave Mayweather the rest although the final round was so devoid of action it could've gone either way.

Mayweather was more accurate, more effective & controlled the range. Pacquaio didn't throw with enough speed or volume to trouble Floyd, pretty comfortable win in the end. If Marquez & Morales (1st fight) gave Pacman serious problems, he was always going to find it tough getting through Floyd's defence.

Roberto Duran v Esteban Dejesus III

Magnificent fight. I know the first time I saw it I had Duran ahead, but I recall reading one of the wire services had DeJesus ahead, so thought it was worth another look-see. These two were at their 135 best.

    Round 1: 10-9 DeJesus
    Round 2: 10-10 Even
    Round 3: 10-10 Even
    Round 4: 10-9 Duran
    Round 5: 10-9 DeJesus
    Round 6: 10-9 Duran
    Round 7: 10-9 DeJesus
    Round 8: 10-9 Duran
    Round 9: 10-9 Duran
    Round 10: 10-9 Duran
    Round 11: 10-9 Duran
    Round 12: Duran stops DeJesus

Total through 11 completed rounds: 107-104 Duran

Razor sharp combos galore back and forth and all rounds close and competitive.

Just got done watching Buchanan-Laguna II from MSG. Good if not great fight, far more one-sided than I thought it would be. Laguna, for all his very real speed and anxiousness, is not very good defensively, and gets nailed repeatedly once Buchanan decides to open up. Ken seems to do so as a response to his left eye beginning to swell to gargoylesque proportions as early as the second round, though it seems to get no worse after that.

The Scot steps on the gas after that and nearly runs the tables, repeatedly outscoring Laguna in a sloppy though active display of lunging, reaching, scrapping and flurrying. Either Ken hits not too hard or Laguna has a ridiculous chin, as the Panamanian is repeatedly tagged flush with terrible shots only to briefly sag and then fire back. Enormous display of heart either way, but he was comprehensively outgunned by Buchanan.

    1. Buchanan
    2. Laguna
    3. Laguna
    4. Laguna
    5. Buchanan
    6. Buchanan
    7. Buchanan
    8. Buchanan
    9. Buchanan
    10. Buchanan
    11. Buchanan
    12. Buchanan
    13. Laguna (starting to feel a bit sorry for him here so maybe gifted a round)
    14. Buchanan (probably should have been scored 10-8, but no difference by this point really)
    15. Buchanan

On the 10-point must I had this one 146-139. Not really all that competitive on the cards......
