Just watched Muangchai Kittikasem vs Sot Chitalada 1.
Muangchai had Chitalada in trouble on quite a few occasions but Chitalada always looked dangerous. Oth lads were throwing bombs and landing I think it was the 5th of this fight that was a real classic round. A great fight and well worth watching.
Muangchai Kittikasem vs Jung Koo Chang.
Another good fight though a bit scrappy in the first few rounds, a bit of a clash of styles and a real bad tempered affair. Chang was past his best here but was still dangerous and had Muangchai over on a few occasions although he never really looked hurt.
In the end it was Muangchai strength that was the difference and it was a brutal and sudden ending.
Not as good as the first fight but worth watching.

His fight with Alberto Jimenez ain't bad. Gets pretty hectic in spots.

After taking a bit of a beating early on I thought Kittikasem showed great ring generalship in getting back into the fight and then nudging ahead of Jimenez to earn a tough duke.

    1: Harada 10-9
    2: Harada 10-9
    3: Harada 10-9
    4: Kingpetch 10-9
    5: Harada 10-9
    6: Harada 10-9
    7: Harada 10-9
    8: Harada 10-9 (Knockdown?)
    9: Harada 10-9 (Knockdown?)
    0: Kingpetch 10-9
    11: Kingpetch 10-9
    12: Kingpetch 10-9
    13: Kingpetch 10-9
    14: Kingpetch 10-9
    15: Kingpetch 10-9

Rounds 4,5 and 11 were missing but the scores were shown during the broadcast and so I filled them in accordingly.

Knockdowns in brackets during round 8 and 9 because I thought Kingpetch went down on the end of punches but I can't be sure.

In any event, I had it 8-7 for Harada.

    Just finished Carlos Ortiz-Joe Brown.

Rather tepid fight really. Ortiz applied careful pressure throughout while Brown just couldn't get off.

I scored the first round even, and gave Brown the next three narrowly, but from that point on it was a clean sweep for Ortiz, as his more youthful legs and busier fists carried the day.

Scored Jake LaMotta vs Norman Hayes II a draw. It could have gone either way certainly and the judges' wide scorecards in favour of LaMotta do not reflect the true nature of the bout. LaMotta seemed content on showing off his sturdy chin in the early rounds, until coming on stronger in the later rounds when the constant body punching had taken its toll. Hayes responded with prolonged flurries of punches which were mostly ineffective, but fun to watch. Two very tough warriors but LaMotta just seemed to hurt Hayes more with his punches, while Hayes couldn't put a dent on LaMotta.

I also scored the second LaMotta-Hairston fight for LaMotta, although many felt Hairston deserved to win. It was competitive early, but Hairston just couldn't keep LaMotta off of him.

One has to wonder though what kind of training LaMotta was doing at his point as he looks to have slowed down a lot from the Cerdan, DeJohn and Mitri fights.

Just re-watched it today. I honestly thought Jimenez deserved the nod by a few points. I thought he was doing the cleaner, more consistent work throughout the fight. Even during the later rounds when appearing the more worn of the two, he just seemed to be at least even money during the exchanges, while rendering most of Kittikasem's jabs useless with head movement and counter rights. Good fight, though, and certainly very close.

I recently read that Ortiz' strategy was to not mix it with Brown as he knew he was a tremendous puncher. Instead his aim from the outset was to box almost exclusively using the jab.
He figured Brown would expect him to come after him given the age difference and be able to catch him with the right hand but Carlos kept to his game plan and won by boxing the smart (if dull) fight.

I think Jimenez's shots lost effectiveness once he started to gas. Even though Kit was just landing jabs most of the time it seemed to me they were the more telling shots later on in the fight...

Do you have a card so we can compare? Here's mine:

Muangchai Kittikasem vs. Alberto Jimenez: 115-114 Kittikasem
    Jimenez: 1,3 ( 10-8 ),4 and 9.
    Muanchai: 5,6,7,10,11 and 12.
    Rounds 2 and 8 even.
