have not rewatched it yet, but did find my old card.

    1 Watts
    2 Hagler
    3 Watts
    4 Hagler
    5 Watts
    6 Hagler
    7 Hagler
    8 Watts
    9 Watts
    10 Hagler

the only thing that stands out to me was I had 5 Watts clear(I make marks for close rounds) and looking at a few other cards I don’t see anyone who scored 5 for Hagler...but like I said I have not rewatched it and I guess this was 8-12 years ago before I really started scoring seriously and watching carefully.

some other cards just for contrast

Since talking to @The Undefeated Lachbuster about him, I decided why not score Srisaket Sor Rungvisai's fight with Gonzalez. Coz it's a possible FOTW for next week.

Great little fight, my bias for southpaws does come through here as I do really like SSR.
    Srisaket Sor Rungvisai vs Gonzalez

    1. SSR 10-8
    2. SSR 20-17 (SSR 10-9) CLOSE
    3. SRR 29-27 (Gonzalez 10-9) CLOSE
    4. SSR 38-37 (Gonzalez 10-9)
    5. SSR 48-46 (SSR 10-9) CLOSE
    6. SSR 57-55 (SSR 10[-1]-9) CLOSE
    7. SSR 66-65 (Gonzalez 10-9)
    8. SSR 76-74 (SSR 10-9)
    9. SSR 86-83 (SSR 10-9)
    10. SSR 95-93 (Gonzalez 10-9)
    11. SSR 105-102 (SSR 10-9)
    12. SSR 115-111 (SSR 10-9) CLOSE

The first started off as a usual Roman feeler round, that SSR was taking easily imo, he was landing more, harder shots and as it progressed he got the KD.
2&3 were fought at an absolutely frightful pace, both close enough to go either way.
4&5 was slower, Gonzalez took 4 based on cleaner shots, Rungvisai took 5 based on the same.
6 was close, could've gone either way. I had it 9-9 or 10[-1]-9 for SSR based on landing nicer shots with a similar activity rate, point reduction due to headbutts.
    7, Clear Gonzalez. Activity.
    8,9, Clear Rungvisai. Activity.
10, Gonzalez landed more, but looked worse. Clear for Choco though.
11, SSR clearly won, Roman took his foot off the gas and took most of the round off.
12, SSR won this one for me, but it's close. Lots of hugging from SSR but throwing and landing more.

I agree with scar I wouldn’t call robbery...perhaps hometown decision but even that I don’t know.

There are no dominant rounds for either guy, and only 3 I felt were wide/decisive 4/6 for Hagler and 5 for Watts. Neither guy really did enough to win or complain about the decision. Judges had 2-2-4 even rounds showing their difficulty in scoring some semi-active rounds for either guy as well. My rounds I scored 8/10 opposite from years ago and still came at 5-5.

    1 Watts
    2 Hagler
    3 Watts
    4 Hagler
    5 Watts
    6 Hagler
    7 Hagler
    8 Hagler
    9 Watts
    10 Watts

    5-5 or 45-45 5 pt must system

    Pipino Cuevas vs Harold Volbrecht

Checking out some Cuevas, who I generally find a little overrated so I wanted to take a closer look.

Don’t know much about Volbrecht outside of this fight but he seems a game semi skilled challenger who gives a decent account of himself.

rounds 1-2 Cuevas is moving forward but using no jab, and every exchange is started and quickly stepped away from by Volbrecht. Pipino stalking forward, Volbrecht darts in for a quick exchange and quickly backs out. A little slow, but Volbrecht takes both rounds for me.

the 3rd more of the same but you can see Volbrecht punches have little effect on Cuevas. Cuevas still using no jab and not throwing much however you can still see the power or knowledge of it has Volbrecht reluctant to exchange for long. Could be even but I felt Volbrecht edged it.

4 Pipino still using no jab (why?) moving forward and now he is initiating the exchanges and landing some nice shots. Volbrecht hammers away as well but clearly getting the worst of it. Very fun round.

5 Cuevas hammers away aggressively and lands good hooks to win he body...Volbrecht lands a nice right but does not get it back up, and a second later a Cuevas left drops him and he ain’t getting back up!

39-37 Volbrecht on my card at time of stoppage.

2 judges see it 39-38 Volbrecht with the 3rd the ref having it 39-38 Cuevas

    Pipino Cuevas vs Scott Clark

Not sure why Clark thought it would be a good idea to stand and slug with Pipino but that was the approach. Clark is tough with a lot of heart, but no power to hang with a Cuevas. Round 1 is fun and Clark lands some good shots of his own along the way but the power of Cuevas takes every exchange.

round 2 Cuevas hammering the stationary Clark, lands a left from hell that drops Clark. Not sure how he gets up but he does (this would likely be stopped here today lol). Another left and down he goes again...he gets back up very wobbly and now is moving for his life but Pipino is all over him. Ref saves him and it’s all over.

    Pipino Cuevas vs Billy Backus

WOW! No warming up from Cuevas he storms out with bombs and Backus is stunned just 10 seconds in. I have no clue how he survived the next 30 seconds of Pipino bombs let alone the round. Pipino drops him and unsteadily he gets up but just to serve as Cuevas punching bag. Pipino lands solid the rest of the round. Props to Backus for surviving it.

the physician comes in to look at Backus between rounds and waves it off!

    Pipino Cuevas vs Clyde Gray

Can someone tell me if a knockout punch even lands? Pipino is bringing pressure from the start. Midway through round 2 he throws a flurry but his left looks to go overtop of Grays hair, but gray falls down. Gray lays there for the 10 count and then rises to his feet. Maybe a punch lands that I don’t see?

    Pipino Cuevas vs Samuel Garcia

Pipino has some awesome power. I would really like to have seen him tested by some higher level comp. Garçia takes the worst of it but shows some mettle of his own standing there with Cuevas. Garcia is not quite as skilled as Volbrecht was but has a little more power....but not enough to hold Cuevas off or even slow him down. I really think Cuevas is more comfortable when like Garcia you come to him, allowing him to snipe from midrange as you come in. Does not seem like a good plan. After dropping Garcia twice the right that drops him for good is worth watching.

    Erik Morales vs. Kevin Kelley

Pretty one sided affair here on the cards. Kelley makes a couple of rounds semi close but never really engages and goes to it. A lot of a soft pawing jab and some decent counters but very little unsettled Erik or makes him work hard. I was disappointed that Eriks corner told him early to go to the body but he didn’t till round 5. Not sure if he didn’t feel the need or the hand speed countering south paw Kelley kept him from that. In 5 he lands a solid body shot that drops Kelley. Erik looks just as sharp at Featherweight.

shutout for Erik with 5 being a 10-8 rd. 60-53 at time of stoppage

    Erik Morales vs. Paulie Ayala

This was a very good and fun fight, but being one sided kept it from being a great or exciting fight. Morales looks top notch in this fight, and seems to know just how to fight southpaws, in particular ones who are moving up in weight.

paulie is a warrior who battles on after his eye is nearly closed from 7 on. Erik hurts his hand in 8 or 9 and seems to coast allowing Paulie to take 2 very close rounds (3-3-4 for the judges? I can’t see 4 rounds perhaps 3?) before exploding for 140 punches over the final round. Paulie has some moments in nearly every round especially when he gets underneath and inside, but he eats so many bombs on the way in and can’t sustain it that he is beaten up all night. But still a very tough guy who refused to quit or go down! Had this been a 15 rd era fight he would never have finished.

    1-9 Morales 90-81
    10-11 Ayala (morales 108-101)
12 Morales 118-110 on my card

    117-111 x’s 2 and 116-112 on the judges
    Leddermen has it 119-109

In the final sequence, Cuevas lands a right hand to Gray's ear, followed by a left uppercut that connects to Gray's face. Cuevas follows up with a final hook that seems to miss, but I think Gray is on the way down anyway due to those last two punches. Clyde had previously been rattled a couple of times earlier in the round, too.

    4. Fernandez 39-35 (Fernandez 10-8)
    5. Fernandez 49-44 (Fernandez 10-9)
    6. Fernandez 58-54 (Ortega 10-9)
    7. Fernandez 67-64 (Ortega 10-9)
    8. Fernandez 77-73 (Fernandez 10-9)
    9. Fernandez 86-83 (Ortega 10-9)

Fernandez was a monster! Ortega had a huge heart and an iron mandible.

    Gonzalez vs Estrada
    Light Fly

    Gonzalez - Estrada

    R1: 9 - 10
(does Choco ever win the 1st round?)
    R2: 9 - 10
    (Sharp from Estrada. Tight.)
    R3: 10 - 9
    (Brilliant. Estrada work less effective.)
    R4: 10 - 9
    (Close but clear. Brilliant fight).
    R5: 10 - 9
    (Brilliant ring cutting and combos.)
    R6: 10 - 9
    (Brilliant angles; brutal gut shots.)
    R7: 10 - 9
    (Clear)
    R8: 10 - 9
    (These exchanges!)
    R9: 9 - 10
(Flashy work here. Rare slower round.)
    R10: 10 - 9
    (Close, brutal, strategic. Amazing round)
    R11: 9 - 10
    (Close. Great inside work)
    R12: 10 - 9
    (Wow! Amazing finale)

    TOTAL: 116 - 112 Chocolatito

    Notes:
    • Deserving of a re-watch. Thanks FOTW!
    • High skill from both men. Difference is effect. Choco is more effective and less cuffing.
    • Choco has master defense.
    • One of the highest skilled bouts ever sub - Fly IMO.
    • Estrada loses when he holds his feet. Unfortunately, he's against a prime Chocolatito.

Jung Koo Chang vs Armado Ursua

    Chang UD10

Chang being matched hard again, against skilled but past it Ursua, in his last bout before his title winning destruction against Zapata in the rematch. Chang looking amazing here, initially boxing on his toes, then swarming and switching. He combines it in such a fluid manner, alongside a great defensive radar and accurate punch picking. Probing left typical of the Korean style, and very fast feet - something he started to lose in his later performances. Compare this bout with the Perez bout to see how he slipped. This is one of his bouts that proves the 'young Duran' style comparison apt. Such talent, ferocity and instincts, with fluid combination of defense and offense. Very unorthodox and offbeat; great to watch. This version of Chang around the time period would clearly beat a Ricardo Lopez IMO.
