Daniel Zaragoza vs Seung Hoon Lee May 29, 1988 Randomly came across this fight a couple days ago on an extensive Korean based boxing channel on YouTube, and after seeing it appeared to not be elsewhere on YT, I also put it up. Found it to be an awesome fight. Very entertaining, and both fighters couldn't have given much more than what they did. There's also no commentary, which I enjoy. I don't often score fights personally. I do enjoy reading posts by quite a few of the regulars here and I'm very curious to see what's what. I leave this fight with the impression that Daniel won but it seems that 1988 was a rough yr in which to get a win over a South Korean fighter when coming in as the "away" team, as Jones Jr found out about 4 months later. Anywho, greatly entertaining fight, but, who won? This content is protected
I watched the first round and need to watch it in it's entirety. I notice the Korean crowd screams at anything Lee throws, so be on guard. BTW. Zaragoza deserves points on the card just for that mullet alone. LOL!
Zaragoza also has an entertaining two fight series with Joichiro Tatsuyoshi, if you haven't seen them.
I haven't, but I was very impressed with Joichiro - and particualrly his body-punching - in his fight with Greg Richardson. So i will definitely have a look.
indee two very enjoyable fights. Zaragoza also has a great trilogy with Paul Banke. One of my fav three fight series. Also i dont know if you have watched yet but if you havent seen the second Zaragoza vs Banke fight then make sure you watch it. Its one of the greatest fights ever imo.
Hey there, Mr. Henry Hank! thank you for the suggestion! very excellent 3 fights for sure. I have just posted the three fights, all in HD, to my channel. again, good stuff there! This content is protected
Daniel Zaragoza v Paul Banke 2 Wild, wild fight. Unrelenting action in each round. Reminded me a bit of the Corrales-Castillo fight in that no quarter was given and neither fighter was ever badly in trouble until Zaragoza just folded in the 9th. Zaragoza was busier and mixed up his attack more than Banke but Banke never seemed to take a backward step. It was obviously way more competitive than my scorecard reflects but Zaragoza seemed to be getting the better of the action for most of the fight. Had Zaragoza backed up for the last four rounds and spoiled, he probably could have survived and taken a decision but once he went down it was clear it was from exhaustion rather than any one punch he took and he wasn't going to make it through the round. It's weird but while this was clearly a great fight I didn't actually love it as much as I expected to or probably should have, possibly because each round felt almost the same as the last. Tremendous sustained action, though. Zaragoza v Banke 2 1 9-10 2 10-9 3 10-9 (close) 4 10-9 5 10-9 6 9-10 (close, but Zaragoza rocked a bit in this round) 7 10-9 (close again) 8 10-9 (78-74) 9 Banke TKO Zaragoza

Awesome fight, real throwback! Predominantly infighting here, no breaks between two tough fringe contenders over 10 rounds. I don't keep it a secret that I'm high-key a Gonzalez fanboy but this was a little bit of home cooking imo. Johnson shoulda had this for me. This key to winning this one was pretty much whoever led the action got the better of it, and Johnson was clearly much more comfortable leading and bulling in. Some nice smothering from him too.
Kuniaki Shibata vs Vicente Saldivar Shibata - Saldivar R1: 10 - 9 Shibata starting fast. Saldivar landing nothing effective. R2: 10 - 10 Shibata landing better but not doing much R3: 10 - 9 Both with some sharp work here. Could've given it to Saldivar. R4: 10 - 9 Shibata taking it on some lovely timed leads. R5: 10 - 9 Good round. Shibata getting his groove. R6: 10 - 10 Neither imposing on the other here. R7: 9 - 10 Saldivar doing and landing more. R8: 10 - 9 Shibata on a few counters. R9: 9 - 10 Saldivar working that left. R10: 10 - 9 Great round. Shibata working inside, Saldivar hurt. R11: 10 - 9 Great action. Saldivar hurt slightly. R12: 10 - 9 Saldivar trying, but tiring. R13: TKO - Saldivar is pulled out by his corner. TOTAL: 118 - 112 SHIBATA Notes: Shibata beating Saldivar at his own game of aggressive counter punching. Saldivar was past his best here, but he was not totally shot. He'd have still beat other Feathers in this state. Nice to see a battle between two highly skilled aggressive counter punchers.
Carl Froch vs Jean Pascal Froch - Pascal R1: 10 - 9 Froch clubbing with his deceptive style. R2: 9 - 10 Pascal much better when working in with the jab. R3: 10 - 9 Froch smashing those shots in. R4: 9 -10 Froch's chin is insane. R5: 9 - 10 Pascal tidier, landing shots later to definitively take the round. R6: 10 - 9 Pascal lunging and losing his range. R7: 10 - 9 Froch with some brilliantly timed shots. R8: 10 - 9 Pascal very much slowing down and getting clumsy. R9: 10 - 9 Both wide open! Pascal hurt. R10: 10 - 9 Froch working well. R11: 10 - 9 Pascal too inconsistent. R12: 10 - 9 Both men giving it. TOTAL: 117 - 111 FROCH Notes: Nostalgic bout for me. I remember everyone supporting Froch back in the day. I love Froch's awkward style. An instinctive fighter with unique timing, iron chin and amazing fitness. Like Sung Kil Moon. He hadn't really implemented that shifty feinting game into his style here yet, though, like you see in later bouts of his.

As for the cards, how was this 116-112 for Dawson on all 3??? Anyways, I could defo swing on rounds 5, 6, 9, 11 & 12, so lots of room for interpretation here. I've never gone out of my way to watch Dawson, but every time I have watched him, I've always been really impressed. Brilliant skill here, really really fun style. Glen out-toughed and out-landed Chad in this one.
Sat down and watched this today. Here is how I had it: Round 1: 10-9 Lee Round 2: 10-10 Even Round 3: 10-9 Zaragoza Round 4: 10-9 Zaragoza Round 5: 10-9 Zaragoza Round 6: 10-9 Zaragoza Round 7: 10-10 Even Round 8: 10-9 Lee Round 9: 10-9 Zaragoza Round 10: 10-9 Lee Round 11: 10-9 Zaragoza Round 12: 10-10 Even Total: 117-114 Zaragoza Actual scores were 115-113 Zaragoza, 114-112 Lee and 114-114 Even for a draw. I think the Korean audience played a big part in swaying these officials. It was a tough fight no doubt and their styles made for a bit of a sloppy fight at times. Zaragoza was not a big puncher - more sharp than anything and Lee fought in sloppy flurries so a lot also depends on what one finds impressive. Like I said, it tends to get sloppy at times as well as wayward blows and reckless head-work as well. I will say this, they fought their hearts out.
Had this on the watch-list for a while Gilberto Roman vs Kontoranee Payakaroon Roman - Payak R1: 10 - 10 Both feeling each other out. R2: 10 - 9 Lots of set up, not a lot of throwing. R3: 9 - 10 Kon parrying and very aggressive. Lots of skill and strength. R4: 9 - 10 Really making Roman work here. R5: 9 - 10 Kon bulling in! Clear round for him, bullying Roman inside and around the ring. R6: 9 - 10 Close. Roman starting to get the measure. R7: 9 - 10 Kon again getting the best of the action. R8: 10 - 9 Roman adapting; Kon tiring. Nice uppercuts. R9: 10 - 9 Roman coming on, sensing Kon's fatigue. R10: 10 - 9 Roman in rhythm now, Kon slowed down. R11: 10 - 9 Kon very gassed. Roles have switched. R12: 10 - 9 Dominant round for Roman. TOTAL: 115 - 114 ROMAN Notes: Great bout. I recommend to all the resident scorers here. Very close! Payakaroon tracking Roman extremely well. Really showing his massive fighting experience here. If Payakaroon had better stamina, he could've won this, definitely. He was completely gassed in the end.
